I think you’re way over valuing guy’s especially Mittlestadt. If SJS were to entertain an offer they’d ask for Cozens as the starting point.

Sharks arent rebuilding so no. The pick is really the only valuable thing to us here. We wouldnt need a D or a bottom six center

We'd be much much much better off keeping Casey Mittelstadt. Idk why every other Sabres post has him being traded like he has astronomical value.
No way i'd pay that for Couture, especially a top 8 pick in a very strong draft class.

I agree it's an overpayment for Couture.......Couture who is also 30 years old and fresh off a huge contract extension.

And we're also throwing in McCabe and MoJo who probably get second and third round picks in seperate deals by themselves.

He's a great player but not for the pick and the contract coming back.

Plus San Jose likely wants to keep him for the long haul considering they just paid him

Totally agree
Mittelstadt still has a really high ceiling
There’s just no point to “sell low” on him now

3 seasons 25pt as a high, career rCF% -2.4 while taking the majority of his starts in the OZ. Has Buffalo bungled his development probably, but in doing so they have severely affected his value and his lack of effectiveness is one of the reasons Buffalo is in its current state.

Yes, they rushed him
But Mitts is still a top talent with a huge ceiling

For example:
Alex Nylander looked far worse than him,
yet still got us Jokiharju- who was a blue chip RIGHT HANDED defenseman prospect ready for the NHL

Has Mitts value gone down?
Sure

Does he have “next to no value” like u said?
That’s preposterous

Thats cuz Bowman was a ****ing idiot, no way was that a fair trade and anybody who thinks so is out of their mind. Does this package get you a top 6 forward? Of course it does. But does it get you the captain and all around best player on the sharks along with being a clutch playoff performer? No it does not

No team is going to give anything of value for him, that’s why I say that. Tyson Jost is a significantly better player, but is in a similar boat, a high draft pick that hasn’t progressed as planned. Some Avs fans clamor for the same thing, but realistically in a trade he isn’t fetching much and he is way more value than Mittlestadt. Buffalo is better served to HOPE he develops into an NHL. But to other teams he has no significant value beyond that of a reclamation project.

21 year old Mittelstadt is a “reclamation project”?
You’re bananas dude
That’s just a ridiculous statement

Not every young talent is a stud right away
Mitts has barely played over 100 NHL games
You’re talking like he’s a confirmed “bust”
Which is very far from the fact of the matter

I hope you’re right that the Sharks wouldn’t accept this
Bc I’d be pissed if we overpaid for a 30year old like this
Even one as good as Couture

Barely played over 100 nhl games over 3 seasons. Which means on a non playoff team as a top 10 pick he has been unable to establish himself as a regular NHLer much less as a top 6 player. I don’t think he is a bust (yet), but it goes back to my original point, he has little value in a trade scenario, because he hasn’t shown a) he can be a regular NHLer much less a top 6 guy and b) any team trading for him has their own prospects who would be ahead of him. He isn’t even The Sabre’s top forward prospect anymore.

bub...
the only real value here is Mitts potential and the 1st.
McCabe is a nice bottom pairing dman.
MJ is a dime a dozen in today's NHL, he is a 3rd liner - value is MINIMAL.

Stop overvaluing the scraps on Buffalo - this package does not land Couture.
It's also difficult to place value on potential, I'd argue that Mitts isn't worth much right now because he hasn't done anything to prove he can be a future top 6 guy.

Mitts needs to prove himself a bit more before he has this value. Also depends on when this trade is made if you're betting on the value of that pick. If they play the season with Couture you're looking at a 15-20 pick most likely, if it's a guaranteed top 10 pick then you have a chance at Couture, if not they domt even consider this offer.

What interesting evaluations. I think you're being generous with Johansson but let's pass over that for the moment. Half of the Buffalo posts I've seen lately trade McCabe away for a third or Mittelstadt, so your Sabres colleagues don't think much of either. And it would take that first to get Couture (or any other top-flight center).

He’s still a very good prospect

I didn’t say he is a bust. Yes he was a high draft pick. But, He hasn’t proven he is a regular NHL player, much less a top 6 forward. He isn’t even the Sabres top forward prospect anymore. Do you think if Buffalo offered him in any package that opposing GM’s wouldn’t say the exact same thing? So far in his career (114 games over 3 seasons) he is a 0.34 ppg player and a negative shot differential player while taking the majority of his starts in the offensive zone. I’m just looking at it objectively.

Again, not every young player develops on the same timeline
Yeah, i do think there’s GMs out there that would still see him as a very talented prospect with a high ceiling still
