Today's shut-in exercise.

LW - First Line / top D pairing potential
C - solid top 6F / Top 4D potential
RW - Depth NHLer
LD - AHLer for life

I just put them in their tiers, I didn’t rank them within the tiers.

I left out Anthony Stolarz because I think he's Gibson's backup if Ryan Miller doesn't come back, and I left out the rest of the Reserve List if I didn't think they had a real chance. I'd like to be wrong about Matthew Berkovitz, though.

I was so careful (actually, OCD) to do the buyouts in alphabetical order, and look what CapFriendly did to me.

In the NHL, but imo
Jones-3rd line
Guhle-second pair
Larsson-good bottom pairing DFD

Also I'd move Thrun up and Tracey down a tier each, Thrun was impressive in the NCAA this yr and Tracey is probably gonna be a second liner (maybe lower depending on other players development obv... He could get buried a bit)

I think all go in the second tier (solid top 6 forward for Jones once he matures and Guhle and Larsson to me have already virtually guaranteed their position in that rank).

Jones is on the cusp and you may be right. He's Nick Ritchie with better hands. He may surprise.

Larsson could turn into a top-4 defensive defenseman. I know he'll never be Brett Pesce, but he's in that mold. I actually think his ceiling is a left-handed, slightly better Josh Manson who, in my opinion (just between you and me) is on the cusp between #2 and #3. (My standard for a #2 d-man is Brandon Carlo/Ryan Pulock, and I wouldn't trade either one even-up for Josh.)

I could see Jones being widely viewed as better than Ritchie (depending on who he plays with) bc he has a better chance at converting more of his xG into actual goals, but I think Ritchie will always have the better xG (for and against)

I'd also at least strongly consider Manson for Carlo (simply bc the age difference) but yeah I wouldn't do Manson for Pulock

Agree on Jones and Larsson (3rd pairing or AHLer for me). Disagree on Guhle. He's very bad defensively. Has bottom pairing puckmoving D-man written all over him for me.

Also agree with Thrun and Tracey being moved to different tiers. You could argue that Comtois goes up one tier too. I think he'll end up a 1st line W, but I am a big fan.
