Flat Cap - Cernak

Créé par: Jetman
Équipe: 2020-21 Jets de Winnipeg
Date de création initiale: 19 mars 2020
Publié: 19 mars 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Its a bit of an over pay but by doing only 3 years, he still is a RFA and he may like a 3 year better than a 5 as it gives him options like the past RFAs did last year. He reminds me of a Trouba with a bit less of an offensive game. He should work great with JoMo

This also makes it way more difficult for TBL as they value Cirelli and Serg over him imo...

Idk I feel like Tampa will make other moves to keep Cernak, i.e. Gourde buyout, and maybe trading Palat or Johnson.

They have to trade away about 17M to keep Cirelli, Cernak(at 4M) and Serg....It will be tough for them...

Not if they all take bridge deals, and in Tampa their cap hits can be lower than on most other teams due to the fact that they have no income tax

at a cap of 81.5, there is no way in H that they can sign everyone...look at it yourself...BTW I did a TBL post earlier to show how bad their situation is.

I think they’ll be able to keep them all - everyone thought point was getting 8+ on a bridge deal and he signed for less than 7.

Buying out Gourde is 10 seasons of dead cap space, can't imagine they'd go that route.
Tampa always seems to figure out their cap crunch one way or another.

I doubt Cirelli and Serg will be agreeing to 900K bridge deals imo...Thats the only way that they will be able to afford 23 players unless they delete cap space by trades

Then what? By doing that, they will be basically at the cap with 18 or so players signed

They don't have to have 23 players, they've run this year with 22 for a decent amount of time. No evidence there will be a flat cap either. I do agree Cernak is the only rfa that could be lost, as Tampa will not be trading Serg or Cirelli and neither has indicated they want out via an OS, which are extremely rare anyway. I think on bridges and with the no state tax playing a role, all 3 could be signed for around 11 or even less knowing JBB and his cap skills.

That frees up 7 mill. I think cernak will be the 1st to get signed, I can see him taking a Labanc deal. I think they’ll trade coburn (1.7) as well and cal Foote should make the team out of camp .

Yeah, Coburn is gone and so is Killorn(unless JBB convinces either Gourde or TJ to waive) and Paquette. Coleman replaces one of Killorn, Gourde or TJ and Goodrow replaces Paquette. Foote must be ready to go next year, if not then they likely would've moved him already. The dcorp should be Hedman-Rutta, McD-Cernak and Serg-Foote unless they want Serg back on the right. The only change I could see is if they like Bogo enough to re-sign him over Rutta maybe. It'll surprise many, but not Tampa fans, when Cirellj signs a 3 year bridge between 4 and 4.5, Serg at 4.5 or just a little higher and Cernak could get the Labanc treatment but a 2 or 3 year deal around 2 is also what most ppl who really know Tampa expect. Most think Tampa and JBB negotiate with these overpaid #'s in mind and yet it never plays out like that. I wonder what's more likely to happen this time.

Unless JBB can pull magic and sign them before free agency opens, those three guys will be O/S....and no RFA/their agent would sign a cheap deal pre FA...

Gourde buyout? He's over 26 so it would be 2/3 of his contract for twice the amount of years left. So...that would be 3.4 for the next 10 years unless I made a mistake? YIKES!! definitely not a buyout candidate.

Tampa needs to trade one, two of three of these of Johnson, Gourde, Palat and Killorn if they wanna keep Sergachev and Cirelli...Cernak can probably sign cheap. If Im Sergachev and Cirelli I want that Point money plus with more term. I highly doubt these guys would take bridge deals or hometown discounts. Go get your money boys

Cernak will be a cap causality IMO, unless he takes a discount. I doubt the jets would O/S him though. Might as well work out a deal and maybe the lightning would have interest in some inexpensive players like Niku

Even if some team throws an offer sheet at them, please let me know where any of them have voiced their want to leave Tampa. I'll wait, until them OS are about as rare as they come and the player almost never takes it. Keep holding out hope though, I'm sure after 5 years of Tampa having all of their players understand and buy in to their team strategy/philosophy, that Serg and Cirelli are jumping ship to a worse spot.

I get your point...

If a team O/S Cirelli at 6-7M and TBL can only afford him at 4.5-5M, why wouldn't he agree...esp if that means that TBL may match. This goes for those other players too...

Anything is possible but most contenders don't have that kind of cap to throw around. If Serg and Cirelli indicate they want more then JBB likely either doubles efforts to convince Gourdr or TJ to waive or trades Cernak. Serg and Cirelli though are too important for both now and later to let go. Again though I believe they will bet on themselves, take the million or so less bridge deal and then cash in later, all.while having several more cup runs in Tampa.
