Description
•A full season in the NHL should show which young players are worth keeping in the expansion draft.

•Hopefully sens get one of stützle/Lafreniere and one of rossi/byfield in 2020.

•Lafreniere/stützle makes the team immediately, Formenton spends one more year in Belleville to polish his offensive game, makes team in 21-22 to replace who’s lost through expansion.

•Rossi plays a year in Europe to better develop before also making the team in 21-22. Byfield would stay in junior.

•Lassi Thompson and Bernard-Docker man the power play In Belleville and take a year or two longer to develop.

•Pinto stays in college for a year longer.

I don’t think brown shoudl be moved. He is a solid leader and a good 2-way player who will be needed once the sens get back to relevance

I am all for moving Tierney, but you need to land a RD. Beyond Chabot and Zaitsev (who has been solid enough this year), that blueline is AHL caliber at best. Fill it out man!

I think Connor Brown is phenomenal but I’d rather have a pick and promotions from Belleville. With Ottawa’s draft assets and strong AHL team this year I’d rather them not give term to 3rd line/fringe top 6 guys.

I also don’t think it’s insane for the Sens to be Norris-Rossi-Pinto-LBrown down the middle by the end of next year, and they use Colin White in that same middle 6 two-way winger role.

I’d rather see the Sens draft a RD with the islanders pick this summer, and wait for Chabot, Bernard-Docker, Brannstrom, Lassi Thompson etc to be their core in a year or twos time.

I agree. But you have to bridge the gap too. Bringing up the youngsters to get pummeled nightly doesn't breed a healthy culture..... Edmonton Oilers - Exhibit A.

The Sens are getting pummeled nightly as is. I also think there’s a difference between taking a Junior player and putting him in a top line role vs taking an AHL player and playing him in a bottom 6 role.

I’d say all these guys have excelled in the AHL, and are due for promotions. Some of the young players will struggle but it’ll be clear who’s worth keeping in next summers expansion.

Time will tell which direction they go in, but I’d hate to see them lose Connor Brown for nothing in expansion, or leave a guy like Chlapik in the minors to dominate, just to see him become the next William Karlsson on Seattle.

Again agree.

The situation in Ottawa is so delicate. The owner is toxic, yet the team this year was surprisingly scrappy. They had fight. They didn't quit. (Note: Smith should get some Adams recognition imo).

Certainly there are a number of Bellevegas Sens ready to graduate - but the bulk are forwards. Do you play these kids to get destroyed nightly, or make moves that just might begin to breed a winning culture?

I don't see this team making the playoffs next year, however, a couple shrewd moves with the blueline I think they hang around. Even if you bring back Hainsey for a year (he somehow is still relevent!). The bulk of blueline simply isn't ready, and that gap needs to be bridged. I did an AGM where I moved Tierney for Montour (some suggested Miller). The blueline looked healthier.... more competitive with that move imo, while allowing kids to better develop in Belleville.

Moving players like Tierney for more draft capital at this stage is counter productive - although Melnyk may see it differently.

This offseason for the Sens is delicate. Wrong moves could set this back. Oileritis could seep in. Just see the blueline as you have constructed it as being problematic in micing the needle forward.
