80 million compliance buyout challenge

Créé par: Butlrr
Équipe: 2020-21 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 14 mars 2020
Publié: 15 mars 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Let’s assume the cap falls and teams are offered one compliance buyout like after the most recent lockout. Here’s a plan.
The team is better because:
1. no Tim Schaller
2. Didn’t re-sign Motte
3. Leivo and Gaudette, Leivo and Sutter, Roussel and Gaudette (no Virtanen), and Roussel and Sutter (no Beagle) were all parts of effective bottom six lines previously. I think there’s enough there to field two average to slightly below average third and fourth lines.
4. Mackenzie Weegar is a slight upgrade on Tanev at this point in their careers. Florida has a lot invested in Ekblad, Yandle, Matheson, and Strahlman and still have to replace Hoffman and Dadonov. They may be open to a trade.

And I reserve the right to laugh at each and every hate comment (I could also cite a bunch of different stats, and show a bunch of charts etc, but I really don't care to RN, and I highly doubt you're in the mood for charts and stats anyway)

I would like to see these charts. This is a pretty bold claim considering Hughes has a CF% + CF rel% of 58.7 and Weeger's is 52.7

I like all of your ideas here, particularly the idea of going after MacKenzie Weegar. I hope you don't have to pay that much for Tyler Toffoli, but I'd like to see him stay with the Canucks.

Compliance buyouts for my two teams are easy: Anaheim: Backes; Los Angeles: Kovalchuk.

Sorry, but having perused the same publicly available information, I don’t see it. Whatever preference you might have for Weegar at even strength gets wiped out by Hughes’ production on the power play.

I’m here for the argument that’s Weegar is much better than Tanev at this stage. I’m not sure how much of an impact that will make on goal prevention at the team level. Fixing the bottom six is a far bigger problem, which is what I was trying to get at by saying slight.

Hughes is definitely the MUCH better PP guy, but given the same opportunity in the same system, with raw numbers it's really really hard to tell how much better Hughes really is, and 5v5 (which is what I base like 95% of my individual player evaluation on) Weegar is the better player, (comparing Weegar's RAPM charts from mid Jan to Hughes current charts at least)

"2. didn't resign Motte"
honestly, the Canucks have been 100% better with him on the team. definitely one of the better players lately after the Markstrom injury.
