Since the Hall trade New jersey has played above 500 and if were like that all season would currently be a playoff team. So this may be their last chance for a while of a really good pick. They aren't in need of centers so Domi is redundant (yes i know he can play wing, anyone can). This is a stacked draft year and next year is not, giving away a top 10 (probably top 5) pick for 2 mid 2nds and a mid 1st in a weak draft is illogical.

Regardless, it will be really interesting to see what happens to the NHL season and where teams will actually draft when June comes around! Detroit is way out in front in the Lafrensiere sweepstakes but teams that could draft basically 2-10th were all really close in (the bottom) of the standings and a few more games might have scrambled where they were all positioned. The NHL is going to have to make some hard decisions.
