Description
STL trade:

Blues need cap space for Petro and Dunn and Habs need a quality backup goalie. Allen seems like he got things under control again this year so I could see Bergevin take a shot and make a deal with STL. Since STL is tight against the cap, I could see Bergevin trying to move up in the draft and use his cap space as an asset while addressing a positional need.

ANA trade:

Not sure if ANA would do it but I could see Domi as a good fit in a team that needs top-6 forwards and has plenty of DEF already in the big league and a good prospect pool at that position. Mete is thrown in there to fill the void left by Lindholm’s departure. Not sure he is available, but Bergevin should definitely target him.

Ducks need a ready-to-play RhD, not a LhD. Anaheim might consider Lindholm for Domi plus Brook or Fleury plus one of your earlier second-rounders, though.

Fowler has a NTC and would never waive for MTL. Lindholm is a little younger and slightly cheaper against the cap. I don’t think Fowler is a realistic option.

LHD is a position of strength for Anaheim: Fowler, Larsson and Mete/Mahura would make a good lineup so at some point I believe Lindholm could be made available for the right price. Maybe Habs need to add a little more though

Domi, Fleury and a second could be interesting. Brook is not ready to play yet while Fleury has NHL experience and played well for a rookie. Habs would certainly entertain this idea and it makes sense for both teams IMO

The Blues cap situation is not good with Petro and Dunn to sign. GMs will try to take advantage of it. Everybody knows they need to make a trade in order to sign both so the Blues won’t be dealing from a position of strength. This deal meets both team needs.

Someone will do better than that. We don;t need to pay to trade Allen.

Have you considered that "taking advantage" can also be as simple as a GM paying a 4th round pick to very cheaply acquire a really good backup slash fringe starter?
It's a much better offer for STL.

Ask the Leafs with Marleau who had to pay a first rounder without getting anything back.. a lot of teams could have done more than that, but nobody did since they knew Toronto was in cap hell. Not saying Allen doesn’t have value, but I don’t see any GM handing out gifts to STL especially considering they are the defending champs and will be contenders for the next few years.

Look at what TB ended up giving for Goodrow. When a team is dealing in a tight cap situation, other GMs are aware

The free agent goalie market will be really good this year with Crawford, Lehner, Dell, Khudobin, Greiss, Halak, Etc..

Other teams can get similar quality without giving a draft pick and for a cheaper cap hit... There will be more supply than demand this summer

Since when is paying proper value for a player a gift? Goodrow is crap. Marleau was a relic. Allen is 4th in the league in save pct. And just because some other GMs trade out of desperation, that doesn't mean Armstong will. He's the toughest nut to crack in the league (as noted in an Athletic survey of GMs). If you want Allen, fine. But you're not getting paid to take him. It will cost you something.

Again, Armstrong is not dealing from a position of strength here. All players over 3M$ carry a NTC or M-NTC... besides Allen, O’Reilly and Parayko.

You said Goodrow is crap..but the deal happened because of TB’s cap situation. No team with a healthy cap situation would have done that. Same for Marleau who netted a third rounder at this years TDL but cost a first to the Leafs because they were in trouble. I don’t doubt Armstrong abilities, but we have to admit that his situation is far from ideal.

Tampa's GM is a moron for making that trade, Armstrong isn't a moron.

That's funny, because I'd consider having a player of value that other teams wish to acquire a position of strength.

We may be revisiting this subject around the time of the draft. I hope you get to have a laugh at my expense.
