The Montreal Canadiens should make big trades come the offseason. One trade that comes back to haunt them particulairly is the Drouin for Sergachev trade. Three seasons that fell short of expectations for him. However, the Avalanche could stay pat. But, they have proven to think outside the box and make trades to revive careers of forwards that fell short of expectations in other markets. Burakovsky and Nichushkin are examples of forwards that excel in Colorado. However, in order to win the big prize, their offence could be even more deadly. Here comes Jonathan Drouin. He would benefit from a change of scenery, and his buddy Nathan Mackinnon would help him. One of the best duos in junior history could revive in the NHL. However, the Canadiens need a stable, mobile presence in the back end who can put the points on the board. Here comes Samuel Girard. Colorado would be very upset to trade him, but, in order to make the deal more managable, Victor Mete would come to Colorado too. He has many of the same qualities that Girard has (except the point producing). Plus, Colorado has a ton of good defensive prospects (Byram and Timmins come to mind). In Montreal's side, Valeri Nichuchkin would come back (they need big forwards). He would a good Russian buddy for Romanov too (in case Kovalchuk doesn't come back to Montreal.)
