Description
This trade was proposed by Craig Rivet on the Instigators (Sabres radio show) this morning. His reasons why Detroit may be open to the idea were pretty convincing. You can listen to his ideas on radio.com

What are your thoughts? Did you hear Rivets reasons why he thought they may be open to it?

laugh laugh Is this a joke? You think Mittelstadt who's best season is 25 points gets you anywhere close to Larkin who's best season is 73 points. Come on man i know Larkin is on Detroit but come on with these trash offers. We already told you that any deal for Larkin starts with at least Dylan Cozens and then add accordingly. Mittelstadt sucks and isn't anywhere close to value for Larkin.

I did not listen this morning. I'm not sure it would be what Detroit is looking for. Although they are a weird team rn.

Get real the only decent piece he added was Buffalo's 2020 1st round pick which is what #7 overall. Other then that it's worthless.

This crap was proposed before and we told them No, Any deal for Larkin would need to include Cozens for starters. If you can't wholeheartedly make a decent attempt then don't make one.

Dumb toxic comment, Yeah okay. How about Zadina+Cholowski+Detroit's 2020 2nd round pick for Jack Eichel now that's toxic.

If you read my description you would know that this was discussed on the radio this morning by Craig Rivet. Mittlestat is only 1 piece here, Detroint is getting a potetial top 5 pick in this years draft, a high second round and 2 1st round prospects in this deal. i dont think it is all that far off to be honest!

If you listen to the reasoning behind it, it makes some sense! by the time Detroit is relevant again Larkin will be in the later stages of his career! If they were to trade him now for good young assets, All of their young prospects grow at the same pace and would all be similar in ages so they could sustain a good team for years to come.

Who the hell is Craig Rivet? Detroit's not trading their future Captain unless it's massive over-payment and this isn't massive over-payment nor does it move the needle. First off the Buffalo 2020 1st round pick would be lottery protected top 3 so anything less and we're not interested. Any deal for Larkin starts with Cozens+Ristolainen+Buffalo's 2020 1st round pick #7 overall non-protected and then some.

You act like Larkin is 28 years old or something, Larkin will be 24 the end of July. Detroit's not that far off from being relevant again. Not like Buffalo is any better they've far more talent then Detroit and still are garbage. Not moving Larkin for scraps and yes that's scraps. If Buffalo wants Larkin then a conversations starts with Cozens and then some not Mittelstadt.

first off if you are a hockey fan you should know who Craig Rivet is. Retired player who now hosts a Sabres radio show, there is NO protection on this 1st round pick. Obviously if the Sabres were to win the lottery this trade most likely doesnt go through. Mittlestat was an 8th overall pick and is only 21 yrs old with huge upside. his development was botched by the Sabres basically bringing him from High school to the NHL. Johnson was a 1st round pick last season and is a very highly ranked defense prospect. so in addition to thos players Detroit gets a top 10 pick in this years draft and a 2nd round pick most likely still in the top 40 picks in the draft. nobody is saying this is realistic, just a convo!

Got news for you Dude, Eichel is the same age as Larkin and Buffalo is nowhere near being a cup contender. So i guess you had better deal Eichel for scraps. Because there's no way Buffalo wins a cup anytime soon.

See, the premise here is all wrong. The question you need to ask is "what if Dylan Larkin asks for a trade". When you do that, then you can offer any painless quantity package and smugly justify it by saying "well if he demands a trade then you just can't expect to get full value".

look dude I didnt come up with this idea! no need to get all pissy! its most likely NEVER going to happen for way more reasons than either of us can comprehend! you need to relax! FYI Rivet was Captian of Montreal, Buffalo, and i believe San Jose! learn something

Never said he was? But bottom line is Buffalo is trash as well. And Eichel will be up there in age before they even come close to sniffing the cup.

What surprises me about this entire conversation is that there are 22 comments and not one has brought up an obvious (to me) question: why in the world would anyone think Steve Yzerman is going to trade a local hero who took a discount to sign with the Red Wings? Am I missing something here? And don't tell me Well, hockey's a business and that doesn't enter into the equation -- because Yzerman knows that if he trades Larkin, he can look forward to at least some form of fan protest for at least the next year.

Yzerman could have had any job in the NHL once he left Tampa. He came back to Detroit -- for the same reason that he won't trade Larkin, no matter what the package is. And don't start with the OldNYIfan said he wouldn't trade Dylan Larkin even for Brayden Point and Victor Hedman or Leon Draisaitl and Philip Broberg and Evan Bouchard, because we're trying to stay in this universe of semi-realism,
