CHI currently sits at 13 mil of cap space. I think they can free some by moving De Haam to a team in need of defense, like Florida for a mid pick or two.
Now, CHI still has veterans in need of help. I'm thinking about Corey Crawford and Duncan Keith. Keith has been of the 5 best d-men of the late 2000s and the 2010s(until 2019 ish). Keith is still a great skater who can play up to 22 minutes a game, but he can't play in a 1st pairing role anymore. That's a fact. As for Crawford, I like him, but a 35 and with his recent injuries, I think adding a goalie should be one of, if not the main priority of CHI. I know Hawks fans like to talk about Delia, but he has little to no NHL experience so it's not safe to say that he's capable of playing 25-30 games as soon as next season. He could, but it isn't likely.
I think Jonas Brodin would be the best fit possible in CHI to address their previously stated weakness. And CHI has Dylan Strome who is a young, talented center, exactly what the desperately needs. I'll explain the trade in the trade itself.
Now, how to solve the problem? I think the solution (and I say that as a NYR fan) would have to be Georgiev. I'll have to speak as a NYR for that matter. He's not even 25. He's still getting better. He kept us in games that we honestly shouldn't have been in this season. He's stolen AT LEAST 5 games, maybe even 7 for us this season. And he's done it while facing 28+ shots per game. Of course since Shestyorkin has been called up he's played less, but over the past few games he's been great. He makes mistakes but he's able to fix them by making a great save.
Now, who could the Hawks move for him? I think Nylander would/could be a nice start. Now, since he'll likely become a 25 ish goals scorer, I think the NYR should add in that trade... a 2021 3rd rounder + 2020 5th rounder maybe? With that, the Hawks get their future starter.
Now, why would I trade 2 young forwards for players older than them?
A couple of reasons:
1-the acquisitions of Brodin and Georgiev solve specific needs within the Hawks roster
2-with Raymond being drafted and Kurashev being the player he is (he's amazing, believe me I've watched him at least 25 times in Qc City).
Hawks fans, what do you think about that? Any good points? Any bad points? The few signings (Namestnikov and Eakin)?
I really like the Brodin and Georgiev acquisitions, fills two crucial holes on the roster with guys who are still young.
Couple quick things though - Seabrook is slated to be back in time for training camp, so we can't write off his cap hit yet. We can probably do without Eakin/Namestnikov and fill those roles from within or with cheaper options. Also, Maatta's buyout is cheaper than the retention on De Haan, who is the better defenseman anyway, so I'd rather have De Haan on the bottom pair.
For the most part I think its pretty good. Ive been back and forth on trading Strome, also think the Oilers for Nurse would be a target cuz he and McDavid have that Junior connection. I never really thought about Namestnikov but if we trade strome it definitely makes sense, but I dont think we sign both him and Eakin, probably one or the other. We have Evan Barratt probably wanting to come up from Penn State so id probably give him a chance over Schaller and I think Shalunov comes over from the KHL as well. Definitely a lot of options here and I think that Georgiev trade is interesting for sure, definitely would give Delia and Lankinen some competition and an already proven NHL goalie. Also think Carlsson stays up and plays over Seeler and I think if the cap goes up enough Ottawa would be interested in taking back Smith as a locker room guy but that doesn't move the needle on this thread too much. Overall definitely good insight and I dont think anything here really is far from reality other than small nitpicky things
This is very good, and I really like the trades however I want to think that it's a poor trade on behalf of NYR. Nylander hasn't shown too much in his first full NHL season. He has room to grow and in the right situation he could very well develop and turn into a solid player but I'm not sold on that happening. I would also say Nylander has been bounced around the lineup so much I'm sure it's hard to create chemistry because after 2 great games with Kane he'll be placed on a 4th line role with Kampf and Carpenter and play like 10 min a game. Hard to put up 20 goals and 50 points playing that little. That being said, I'd say the NYR trade is an overpayment on the New York side.
I'd agree I'm not sure hawks need Eakin and or Namestnikov. There are 2 bottom six positions that may open up that could be used by Entwistle, Barratt, or Kurashev (unclear if any will be ready for full time NHL next season) but all three projected to be bottom 6 players. Plus Shalunov is gaining traction. I'd agree with @SlickWilly that we could probably use our own system players for cheaper and that Seabrook I'd project to be in the lineup next year.
Long winded and Idk if I made much sense or not lol.

Completely forgot about Entwistle tbh but I think he definitely gets a shot next year
I would probably keep Strome, not sign Eakin and then trade Maatta and keep Koekkoek with Mitchell on the bottom pairing with Carlsson, Gilbert etc as the 7-8. Oh and yes Seabrook will be around also so he can be there for Locker room presence and be in the mix with Carlsson and Gilbert as the 7-8. particularly when we might drop Mitchell to Rockford when the NHL starts to take its toll.
Namestnikov makes sense and we will also be drafting a winger in the first round, hopefully Holtz so will really round out our wings nicely with Kurashev, Entwistle and Barrett all vying for positions in the bottom 6 next year. A little healthy competition is nice amongst the lineup.
Looking up front, I think Highmore has earned a spot and have to consider Hagel, maybe Kurashev and don't think we should give up on Nylander quite yet. Also would move or buyout Maatta and keep DeHaan.
Interesting proposition on Brodin, but given he's a pure rental it would be a bad move IMO based on value, Minnesota would need to add. Nurse from Edmonton is a better option.
