"All we need to do". Going with a 20 man roster? No more logical cap cutting measure needed

Columbus wants a top 6 centre. I don't think Ottawa wants to give up Tierney

Savard is one year away from UFA status and they would lose him trying to retain Freddie and Hyman. Also, he's not that good. He's slow and hits and is right handed, so obviously he is what every Leafs fan thinks we need. We need D who can move the puck to our forwards, we already had big dudes who can hit and just play D, and nobody wants Marincin or Polak in the lineup. The reason Muzzin works is because he can do both.

Do we really feel like this team acquiring one marginal top-4 RHD is going to make a giant difference?

Leafs shouldn't try to retain Freddie imo. Look for a cheaper starter to bridge the gap until Woll or Scott are ready. Freddie will just be too expensive, and getting older

I'm already a tad unconvinced on the idea of Tierney being a #2C upgrade here (and thus worth losing Savard for). Having us add multiple picks makes it an easy "no" for me.

I don't think they have a better option. How do you get a cheap starter? Usually they're cheap because they're young. Either trade a lot for one or draft one. The Leafs probably aren't parting with ANOTHER high draft pick to add a goalie who may or may not work out. Toronto NEEDS a good goalie to be successful, we have seen that this year. Picking up a cheap guy off of UFA is not going to help this team.

If Freddie is so bad and Leaf fans don't want him, why the assumption he's going to be expensive? I can't see him getting much of a raise on what he makes now? Gibson makes 6.4 on a very longterm deal and was better than Freddie when he signed it. He's not getting Bobrovsky money no matter what, Rask makes 7, RInne 5. I could see Freddie getting a modest raise but he's probably not getting much more then the 5 he earns now.

Plus with Scott's surgery (and missed year) and Woll's not super awesome AHL debut season, there's no guarantee either one of them are an NHL calibre goalie.

I'm not saying Freddie is bad, he's no doubt been the MVP for the past few seasons. But we can't afford to give him a long term contract that we'll regret. My guess is he'd ask for something around 7.5-8 mil for 4-5 years, and that too much for the Leafs cap situation. Some have suggested that perhaps Campbell could be a starter, or work in a tandem with another cheap tendy. I just don't think that a long contract for Freddie would be a good decision.

Ok. So you think we can give up nothing for a top 4 defenseman. Bruh

If you want a real top 4 defenseman, give up one of your top 4 forwards or Robertson

Lol Savard is a rental and is definitely gonna test free agency. If anything leafs would say know because we want a defenseman with term. Chris can play second line centre no doubt. And its not like you guys already have a top 4 without Savard.

This based on what? The tired "lol columbus can't keep anyone" narrative? Heck, at a minimum we'd keep him on the roster so as to distract Seattle's attention away from other guys.

Boone Jenner can play second line center, but I'd prefer someone who does the job well. And what is that last sentence supposed to mean?

You guys already have a top 4 d without Savard. You guys have no cap space to afford Savard if you decide to keep PLD and why would he want to stay when you got Jones, ZW, Murray and Nutivara. You even have incoming Gabriel Carlson. If you got Tierney you would be clearing cap space and getting what you need

Which is exactly why they aren't going to go out and get a "true #1 RHD". So they will get a second pairing guy and play him at first. I didn't say that wasn't the plan, just that I don't think it should be Savard.

If Freddie asks for that he becomes the fifth highest paid goaltender in the NHL. He's not going to get that, no team gives that to him. The Leafs are smart and see what happens when you pay a goalie big money. Of the teams with top-10 goalie cap hits, only three are going to the playoffs this year. Like I said, I don't expect Freddie to get a big raise, if he gets one at all. Fred is currently 14th on this list, and of the top 15, only 4 are making the playoffs (Vegas is on the list twice because of Lehner). Paying goalies is the way to lose, not win.
