Really like the Juulsen trade as he is potential No. 2 pairing defenceman in the NHL. Not sure about giving up on Dermott yet and as much as i like Staal we only have him for one year.

Savard would be a great addition to our lineup. I also think the position of 3C is problematic for the Leafs, so I see the point of trading for it.

On the other hand, I'm not convinced yet by Malgin. Would rather have Gauthier or Spezza on that fourth line.

And Columbus quickly closes that one.... we can’t afford to retain on Savard and add more salary.

That’s why we take back Holl and adding Kerfoot is better for both teams. The cap hits are a lot closer then paying a player not to play for you.

Also Bracco isn’t enough of a secondary piece. Columbus has no interest in an AHL wing as part of the trade.

Then this trade will also piss off a lot of fans for them trading the homegrown kid in Sherwood.

Where's the cap crunch FROM though? PLD makes the most, and he should get a Hischier comparable contract. Around 7M.

Anderson wont be getting a significant raise (that is if he stays), and the only other pieces to be brought back are secondary assets. There should be plenty of enough room?

I realized that adding the prospects imbalanced it after the fact. Thus the description. For some reason this website takes forever to load trades in the last week so I didn't redo it.

The cap is from the goalies.... I have no clue how much Merzlinkins, Korpisalo or Kevleniks(Not spelled right) are going to ask for. The other one is Gavrikov, who played top 4 almost all season.

As for the goalies easy have show they have what it takes to be a starter, but it’s all short periods of time and none of it was longer then a month. The biggest problem is Columbus is going to have to take a bit of a shot in the dark and hope they hit.

We have about 17 mil in cap space, 7 long term for PLD, 7 for the 3 goalies. That leave about 4 mil for the rest of the RFAs, Anderson will likely ask for 2.5-3 and you also have Gavrikov that would be about 1.5. 7+6+2.5+1.5=17.

those are pretty weak deals for those other clubs and Juulsen, while a promising youngster once, might not ever play again.

As for salary retention, its worth a lot more than that in trade, and I doubt teams want to move salary for cheaper youngsters only to retain some for not much in return. I think retention of 1.6mil is probably worth a 4th at least.

And Leaf fans, if Bracco is such a good trade piece, why isn't the team keeping him since his salary is almost league minimum. He is in 99% of leaf trades. If he has real value, you wouldn't be trading him.

I doubt you get Juulsen for that. He has some major potential but as has been pointed out, is struggling with head injuries and may never get back on the ice. I don't think Montreal wants to move him for less value.

Instead of getting Savard who is meh, and giving Minny Dermott to replace Brodin, who don't we just go after him instead? Staal is not going to make that great of an impact and Savard isn't awesome either, Brodin's skills would be great for Toronto. Sure he's a lefty, but if you can get him to play offside (or somebody else) he's the ideal get.

Kerfoot still isn't good enough of a C for me to be happy with trading Savard for him, and I find that unlikely to change anytime soon. We need a #2C. We've got tweeners already.

You won't be getting a true 2C for Savard. Savard is expiring, and with retention I'd give him the same value as Muzzin (adjusted for the one less year by removing the prospect). So a late first. You don't get 2C with term for that.

I'll settle for without term if necessary. I have no interest in dumping perfectly good roster pieces for Not What We Need and picks.
