Description
Assuming:
-Little is done
Samberg plays another year in college allowing him to sign with any team
-Heinola gets a shot at 3rd pairing (needs NHL experience and needs to get stronger)
-Gustafasson gets a shot for full season
-Jets miss playoffs this year

UFA D options that are realistic: (Hockey writer article)
-Demelo
-Dillon
-Hamonic
-Ceci
-Beaulieu
-Heed
-Hutton

Possible players for trade:
(jets will draft a center this year)
-Roslovic (not good enough for a 2c on Winnipeg at least)
-Niku (injury prone and lacks defensive skill)
-Copp (hurts me to say it but unlikely)

This isn't good Normie.

-Eakin isn't a 2C now, he won't be one next season and he isn't worth that, $2M at most.
-That's a lot of money for Hamonic, would regret that by year two.
-I like Deslauriers and he'd be a good addition for the 4th line but there's no way I'm trading Roslovic for him and a 2nd, still potential for growth in Roslovic, not a good idea to throw it away for a paltry return.
-Might be a bit high on DeMelo's AAV but idk, that's what it might take.

1. Its Winnipeg, you have to pay a fair amount more to have them come here so Hamonic and DeMelo is realistic
2. I hate Roslovic and I badly want an enforcer plus there could be a sweetener for Roslovic
3. Jets will draft a center and Eakin is just a filler for the season

Hamonic is not worth that much money, he’s barely worth his current contract as it is. He’s injury prone and will be 30 by the start of next season. DeMelo and then another short term LHD option is probably more reasonable. Morrissey-LHD/Heinola/Niku-Samberg for the left side, and Pionk-DeMelo-Poolman is solid.

Why do you hate Roslovic? He’s still only 23, and can be a 45-50 point guy still. No point in trading him for a pick and Deslauriers, who we have no need for. We don’t need a fighter, no room for them in today’s NHL.

Eakin isn’t a 2C.

Hamonic is 30, would be better to just sign DeMelo if he's interested in staying in Winnipeg.
Hate Roslovic? He's coming along, I want an enforcer too but not using Roslovic to get one.. Lol
Man if they're gonna wait another season to see if a center they drafted can develop into a 2C they might as well see if there's any interest in Wheeler and what the market is for Scheiffele cause they're wasting the guys prime and his good deal contract.

I agree with everything you said but I still think some muscle is needed on the 4th line, not sure Deslauriers would really be classified as an enforcer but he's a good skater and he throws his body around, I'd like him on the 4th line. When I see stuff like that slewfoot by Panik on Ehlers I wish they had someone to take care of that kind of crap.

I think Lowry can do that job.

I mean Lowry is good at his job; shutting down 1st lines. It’s hard for him to score since he gets a crap ton of d-zone starts and is matched up against really good opponents, so I don’t fault him for not producing too much offense. Though I agree, he does get a bit too much ice time. 12-13 minutes would be better for him than the 15-16 he usually gets.

I started tracking the line match ups, he really doesn't play against other teams top lines that much, a shift or two here and there but that's it, I really think his shutdown ability has been overblown, his production is in line with that of a 4th line player which is exactly what he's always been.
