I get what you're saying now, but very strongly disagree. You can get players like Manson for far less than Nylander. He's a good defensive guy with minimal offensive contributions. Nothing all that special. Demelo was having as good if not better of a season than Manson and it only cost a third. Granted, Demelo is a rental, but in this scenario, Manson only has two years left. As soon as this deadline past, Manson's value took a hit. Ducks should've traded him. Johnsson is 2nd line winger on most teams, and depending on what the left side on D looks like, Dermott can play top 4. This package is far from 'spare parts', it's just not right for the Ducks.

Come on Leafs fans. Yeah. The team needs a RD. But when every post is Manson, Pesce or Dumba - I am concerned about our fan bases ability to think outside the box. I did see a Jones post week. Haven't seen that on a while.

Manson for Liljegren plus something to equal out the difference between Manson's current value and Liljegren's potential future upside (but not a first) is a reasonable trade. It's going to take two or three years for Anaheim to build a viable right side behind the blue line, which coincides with Liljegren's maturation. It depends what happens in this year's draft. There are some great RhD prospects in it, from Drysdale to Schneider to Grans to Baron to Niemola to Faber. Maybe the Ducks scouting staff will get smart and pick a right-handed defenseman at every reasonable opportunity. (Obviously, if Drysdale is gone at 5 - 7, they should pick a forward because our offense is frightening, too.)
