Toronto isn't going to accept this trade. Bernier played 3 seasons in Toronto and they traded him to the Ducks for nothing. Nelson Mandela

You really think so? I thought Anderson was better but I haven't seen him play much.

This season there's no question. Bernier has put up similar, though very slightly better numbers than Andersen while playing for the Detroit Red Wings. I'm obviously being a bit hyperbolic, but I also genuinely don't think Freddy Andersen is a goalie you can win with.

Bernier: 42GP, 2.94GAA, .907 SV%

Andersen: 50GP, 2.96GAA, .906SV%

Jonathan Bernier plays for a Detroit team with 15 wins and a -120 goal differential. Bernier should honestly win the Hart because without him the Redwings would be 2-65 right now.

Let’s just toss out the debate whether Andersen can win a cup, because that’s not what my issue with this AGM is about.

What you’re suggesting is that Bernier can do better based off of his performance on a bad team, and Andersen’s outlier of a season. If the team can make knee jerk reactions based off of season-by-season performance without consequence then I’d be all for acquiring Bernier as a band-aid. If we were to use last season’s totals for both goalies then your logic wouldn’t pan out.

I think you’re attempting to highlight Andersen’s performance this season and making a bad comparison. If the goalie situation needs fixing in the off season, this isn’t the solution.

Andersen is the best NHL goalie since Kofi Annan. He's not going anywhere.

Me suggesting they can't win with Andersen is the point though. Suggesting Bernier as a replacement is just me taking the piss. I do think Bernier is better than he's given credit for though.

Andersen at his very best is on the high end of average. He's got one year left on his contract, and he'll be 32. Leafs can't replace him internally, but they shouldn't keep him either.
