Description
I think we’ve messed with team chemistry and adding Manson would have been so solid and worth giving up those first and Foote. Not happy with the new GM right now, I see another early first round exit. Finally made a new PP unit but it’s still not right, below is what it should be almost copying Washington.

I see this team below having a better record than 0-3 In Last 4, and would have better team chemistry and guys competing for jobs.

New Gms grade is currently a F-

Dude, you don't know how good Coleman is. He is a shut down defender who should score 30 and the best PK in the world. He is tough, intense, fast and as a late bloomer only now peaking. Give him a few games. You are going to love him.

I think they would have loved Foote and whoever that prospect turns out to be more. The only mass selling flare up here is his very team friendly cap hit. He is overrated and is certainly not worth what they paid for.
JT Miller laughs.

Overrated how? He is on pace for a 30 goal season with almost 0 power play time. He has 3 short handed goals. He is great on D. The first round pick is enough just for his Kevin Garnett stare down. He is a great player. Give him 5 games and judge for yourself. He was my favorite player.

That's the magic of ice time. Look at what Kassian is doing on the oiler's top line - what Fabbri did when put on the DET top line,
Sure, they may have had some better talent surrounding them - and I do think Coleman is better than those two, but Coleman in reality is a 3rd liner. NJ had nobody else to put in their top 6, so coleman was bumped up and did pretty well there. Give him bottom 6 minutes (like he will get on TB) and those stats won't stick.

I don't doubt that he is a good player, but I'd rather Athanasiou or Trocheck any day - and they both came at cheaper price points.

Athanasiou or Trocheck don't play D nearly on the same level or offer anything close to a 200 foot player that Coleman is. You already have scorers. You need someone to keep the puck out of the net and he can score in a flash. Give him 5 games. All I ask.

That’s the thing about trades. A player will only be deemed good or bad based on the cost to acquire him. Especially when the trade is so new. I’m not sure the OP is saying Coleman sucks, just the cost was hard to swallow.

I actually liked both trades .. it HAD to be done as Tyler Johnson and Gourde are awful and we had zero chance in playoffs with them playing meaningful minutes.

The thing that pisses me off.. we overpaid because we wanted their cheap 2020 contracts because we gave Gourde and Johnson 60M dollars.. THAT is why JBB and Cooper should be fired if they dont win .. those 2 contracts dragging down whole organization.. and yes JT Miller is laughing.. how many points is he up to?

I agree that Tampa should've kept Miller and traded Gourde this past off season. However, Miller was never getting used properly here bc Cooper is a fool and Gourde likely would have only returned a 2nd and 3rd/4th instead of the 1st + 3rd that Miller brought. In any case, if JBB was going to mortgage the near future then I would've still gone after Coleman but then left Goodrow alone and went heavily after Manson. He is a rhd who still had term so not a ufa that Tampa would never go after. They should've offered the 1st they gave for Goodrow, plus a good prospect and a conditional 2nd(becomes a 1st if Tampa wins a cup this year or next) for Manson at 50%. Tampa would then have had the shutdown rhd for this run and maybe 2 more, while not having a huge cap hit. By not going after an rhd now, Tampa makes themselves much weaker this year before the hurt guys get back and next year as well. Shattenkirk is gone and who knows about Rutta. By not giving Foote a chance now while so many are injured it is a little concerning as to the confidence the team has in him to be ready to be a regular 3rd pairing rhd next year. Maybe Tampa tries for a defenseman in the offseason through a trade or something, but getting Manson at 50% for these high assets seemed like something they should've considered.

As a Detroit fan I can say Athanasiou does play D and he does back check he just isn't good at it, but he does try to.
