Four years seems a bit much for that kind of player, but Vegas will probably be able to Carrier this contract

Low risk, high reward contract for a 4th liner. The kid has heart and works his butt off. Not bad.

1.4mil is very reasonable for what he brings to the 4th line. 4 years is a long time to marry yourself to a 4th liner.

Good signing, extremely underrated speed, and the line of Carrier-Roy-Reaves is one of the top 4th lines in terms of expected goals for and against. He is a big part of that as he uses his speed to get in on relentless fore-checking creating chances for his linemates, can also play third line reasonably well. It's at least better than the contract we gave Reaves.

The length of the contract is way too long for what Carrier brings.

The lenght is maybe bigger that expected, but the salary is very low, so it seem good to me. He is the type of guy that every playoff team needs.

You mean the type of guy who is -2 with 0 points in 17 career playoff games?

This leaves less room for ELCs to play in 2-3 years. Unless he significantly improves his play I think this is an under-the-radar bust of a contract.

You can literally just bury the contract in the AHL then, idk how this contract could really backfire, you want it shorter? Fine that makes sense but it isn't like this deal is gonna be a huge hindrance to their cap at such a low $ amount. Carrier also has really good underlying numbers so even if he doesn't chip in offensively he plays a very responsible game.

It won't make or break their cap by itself, but one or two contracts of this type can mean there's only $5M around to offer a player who wants $6-6.5M. You can get Carrier-quality play for less money and certainly less term. Again, he has room to improve his play so he can prove the haters wrong, for sure. He just needs to go do it.

Worked out pretty well for the Bruins with the Merlot line.

I get that this deal isn't necessarily very risky given how much you can bury in the AHL now, and how that will grow, but I don't really see a high reward scenario.

I feel like there should be a "meh" vote.

I hate the idea of giving term longer than 3 years to players near the bottom of the line up (4th line, 3rd pair), and I don't really like giving too much more than the amount that can be buried for 4th line players with no real upside. That being said, right now you can bury just over $1M in the AHL, and by the time year 4 rolls around that number will be pretty close to allowing the full deal to be buried if need be, so I don't think this becomes an albatross, I just don't think it's good either.

You never know nowadays. He’s still relatively young.

Fair enough, while I don't think it's likely, I think this contract pays him pretty much in line with what he is, and given it's unlikely to cause any real cap trouble, there is at least some chance he turns out to be a far more valuable player than a $1.4M contract would normally get you.
