Agree, sadly. I think Montreal would likely have to include this year's #1 (maybe top-3 protected, shifting unprotected to 2021 and adding a 2020 second -- something like that) and likely another #1 in a couple of years.

trade can be made at the draft, after the lottery. Dubois is a 60-point player .... not sure how much Habs will have to overpay, but they need to make a splash-change at C. at this point KK is looking less and less of #1C, not saying a bust, but realistically he's not going to be better than #2C, possibly a #3C. If Habs have Dubois, Suzuki and Danault at C, he could move to top 9 wing.

Habs or any team shouldn't waste a 1st rounder on a goalie ... not worth it, most don't pan out and better goalies picked in later rounds... ie. Binnington won cup & was a 3rd rounder, Hellebuyck 5th round and Primeau 7th round.

He’s our 1c. Why would we do that. I get it helps you but holy buckets we need a massive overpay to trade him.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. Columbus has goalies coming out its ears -- Korpisalo, Elvis, Vehvilainen and Tarasov are all excellent prospect under 25.

Dubois might be a 60- or 70-point centre, but he brings something we don't have -- he's an aircraft carrier that can skate. Moreover, he would be a hometown kid (Ste-Agathe is just north of Montreal) who actually wants to be here. With him, Danault and KK/Suzuki up the middle, the team would be set for years up the middle. Suzuki would be able to be an effective C/RW, especially on the PP.

This idea really excites me, more than it did when the Habs tried to swing a deal with Edmonton to trade the 9th pick (Sergachev) for the Oilers' 4th pick, but CLB recognized the Puljujarvi was limited and moved to Dubois, who was never rated higher than 4th.

Columbus would likely need a Domi and a Poehling or a 2020 1st coming back for PLD, then you also want Savard so add another 1st and lower end D prospect.

Patrick Roy , 4 Cups, 3rd round choice.
Jonathan Quick, 2 Cups, 3rd round choice
Primeau & Hellebuyck will win a Cup before Price does.

I was thinking Habs were taking Savard as a favour (cap dump) for Jackets, please keep him if it costs more than adding a Kulak

Habs should overpay, within reason, for Dubois's rights and then sign him up for 8 years. Trade is better than an offer sheet, which 99% will likely be matched by Jackets. Habs can package anybody (except Suzuki) to get him, ie. 2 players (NHLer & NHL ready prospect) and pick, etc. maybe Domi & KK & 2nd

Lol. Savard is not a cap dump.... Dubinsky would be the cap dumb in Columbus and he will likely end up on LTIR if we needed the cap space, I’d bet he medically retires at the end of of the season.

Yes Savard would cost more then Kulak...

Like I said, Jacks can keep him... mind you, zero goals and nine assist so far this year for $4.25 M cap hit seems like an overpayment for me...

You look at offensive stats for a defensive defenseman on a very a defensive team, of course you’ll think he’s a cap dump... Savard is top 3 in blocked shots this season again... he tends to keep more pucks out of the net then he scores.

Also if you wanna see a beauty goal of his, go watch him walk Hedman in last seasons playoffs. Yes he does have a slight offensive said, but he’s had to play very defensive this year.

Um, no. No protection allowed on that pick if you're trying to poach our #1C.

My jaw literally dropped at seeing this. Cap dump? Savard? Is this your idea of a ****ing joke? That's like us trying to argue that someone like Danault is a "cap dump".

We're trying to acquire your #1 centre. Poaching would be if the Habs simply blew their brains out on an offer sheet.
