  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2020 (SJS)
Détails additionnels:
Still trying to recoup some picks for a later swap, Lou's second draft day deal is his second with Ottawa in the last 6 months as he send Hickey's final two years along with Dal Colle and Ho-Sang to the Senators for one each of their 3rd and 6th round selections. NYI
  1. Parise, Zach (2 538 461 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
In his third and final Draft Day deal, Lou rekindles the trade that almost happened at the 2020 deadline by sending Andrew Ladd with 3 million less in bonus money owed, Cal Clutterbuck and 3 picks in this years draft (two of which he acquired earlier in the day) for Zach Parise with 2.5 million retained

  4. Choix de 4e ronde en 2020 (ANA)
  5. Choix de 6e ronde en 2020 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
The Wild are stuck with Parise' final payment regardless but they still are likely to save 8-10 million on this deal, especially if they buy out Ladd after two seasons. They get a serviceable forward bottom 6 guy in Clutterbuck and get 3 picks to lessen the blow

This seems pretty optimistic to me. No chance the Wild retain on Parise's salary when you are sending them more salary then they are getting off of their books. In fact, I think that's a terrible trade for the Wild, it gives them less cap space. Why move a good player for two below-average players and pay more? If the base of the deal is Parise for Ladd, I would imagine NYI is adding only draft picks, not another terrible contract.

Not sure you are getting the draft picks you want for the rest of the players you have traded. Every Islanders ACGM trades Nick Leddy, and yet people continue to insist he's good and has value? You aren't going to "fool" an NHL GM in trading a 3rd pair all offence Dman for a 2nd/3rd/4th pick (especially since all of those picks are at the top of their rounds). Very optimistic on that deal. The Ottawa deal is okay but remember they aren't going to do you any favours either. If you want to dump Hickey's salary (and that's what it is, since he's played in the AHL all year) you may get back a good draft pick to do it (yes I'm aware you tried to balance it with two young players your team doesn't want).

Any time you need to make 3 separate trades with teams to save you your bad contracts and salary cap space, you're probably in a bit of trouble.

That's a terrible move for Wild.

Granted Parise is overpaid, but he's still over 50+ point winger. The assets you're offering are low picks and two fringe-NHL players with terrible contracts.

No the Wild actually SAVE 8-10 million in value over the course of the three years, not add. Yes they will take a bigger cap charge in the first two years (4 if they bury Ladd, 3.5 for Clutterbuck and 2.5 in retention which totals 10 as opposed to 7.5) but then they pay nothing in years 3 through 5 except for 2.83 million (Ladd buyout and Parise) in year three and 2.5 in years four and five. That is a total CAP hit of less than 28 million (10+10+2.83+2.5+2.5) as opposed to a 7.5 million cap hit on Parise alone over 5 years being 37.5 million. Hell, they could even buyout Clutterbuck and save another 2 million in year two. Also, by trading him the Islanders could put him in the minors in years 4 and 5 for a minimal cost until he retires- and less the likelihood that the Wild will pay the enormous payment and cap hit if he retires early.

Leddy is still a very good LD and we very well may keep him. He is on the block because we have loads of talent on the blue line and can replace his veteran leadership by re-signing Greene. Nick is only 28 years old and is better defensively than most give him credit for- which is why he nets 20 minutes a game in Trotz system. He is not a third pairing guy any way you slice it. He could get a first round pick plus at any deadline, but since this is the offseason, two seconds would probably be his ceiling. I did even less with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th....but MINIMUM he would get a 2nd and 3rd.

Lastly, the Senators are in rebuild mode and adding a low cost veteran as well as reuniting Dal Colle with his old coach and a fresh start for Ho-Sang is worth a little. I am not to far off on that trade either....but really it is getting whatever for Hickey and I think Lou could easily make that deal even if it nets him less. Maybe he has to retain 1 million (500,000 each of his two years) and maybe it nets us alone a late rounder...but again, the deal is not farfetched at the slightest......

None of the three deals are. And BTW the rumored deal was in fact Ladd and Cluttebuck and retention on Parise was being mentioned. The Islanders will pay 3 million more on Ladd's bonus, making it even more likely they retain money owed....

yes, I just got confirmation on this- by paying the 3 million in bonus money on June 1st on Ladd- his buyout will be lessened in year two as the same amount in year three.......so that is another 3-3.5 million saved if they buy him out in year two (666,667 instead of 4 million by burying him). So total cost is 24-25 million as opposed to 37.5 million, a savings of 12-13 million (which could be up to 15 million if they buyout Clutterbuck as well in year two)....but the biggest thing is getting out of that major cap hit if he retires early. He has already mentioned that he isn't likely getting rid of his NTC except to play for the Islanders........

No one is trading Leddy because he’s not good. It’s because over the last season younger defenseman have passed him and earned bigger roles. Adam pelech had the 7th best defensive impact among defenseman with tough usage last season. Devon toews was called up last season and he’s played his way in a top 4 role. It happens. Leddy is a 2nd pairing defenseman. He could definitely return a 2nd round pick - he’s better than skjei (although skjei is younger) Leddy will only have 2 years @5.5 mill after this season.
