As for the TOR trade, I don’t think it’s the right move... but the value isn’ bad. I don’t think it makes sense for either team.

This is not post specific, but my new opinion on what to do with Zach Smith.

Smith is a good PK’er Idk about MTL’s cap situation, but realistically he should be movable at this cap hit.

He can go to any team that wants him, but even if no one does want him there’s no reason to buy him out for 2million relief in a year we will not be getting much better.

    1. Smith, Zack (1 500 000 $ retained)
    Détails additionnels:
It’s better to retain almost 50% this year than carry the extra year f the Buyout when Dach and Boqvist are up.

I personally believe that you have better chance of getting Marner than Nylander..

This does absolutely no good for Toronto.

Nylander is better than DeBrincat and signed longer. It'll cost Toronto more to re-sign DeBrincat when his deal is up just adding to the cap. Strome isn't needed in Toronto. He'd be nothing more than a 3rd liner and an overpaid one after he signs his new deal. Kapanen is a better fit for the 3rd line and cheaper and way faster, not to mention more reliable in his own end. That's an easy no from Toronto.

If either one of Nylander or Kapanen are moved it'll be for a d-man, not other forwards.

This is mind blowing to me. You follow the Leafs more than I do, but doesn't this scream prisoner of the moment to you? Marner's having a down year and Nylander's literally twice or three times the player this year than he's EVER been...and Marner's still playing better than Nylander. NO?

Nylander also has an almost 16 shooting %

AND while we can say TOR's PK isn't great....Marner has more minutes on the PK than ANY other TOR forward. That's pretty huge. Nylander has a GRAND TOTAL of 1 minute and 4 seconds.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you as your own individual rather than your stan bowman mindset on this website (i love how you make fun of him btw) do you think this trade is good? Debrincat will score 40-50 again. He's picking it up now. Strome has looked good on a line with Dach and Cat. I'm still not sold on him but I don't wanna break up the Erie Otters connection.

Mariners not even having a bad year, he had a bad game and then publicly took responsibility for his lackluster play, now all of the sudden he's the guy leaf homers want gone due to his lack of heart? Which is just garbage, the kid is good even great most days, is a hometown boy (which up until 5 mins ago every leaf fan yearned for) trading Marner is plain stupid as shake up the core move.

Don't see MTL doing that, unless they buy him out for CHI. It would be a similar buyout to the Mason contract for WPG . That was priced at a 4th, 7th, and Joel Armia. So MTL could offer the same thing, and CHI throw in either Maatta, Koekkoek, or Nylander?
Although I don't think CHI is that desperate for cap space unless they are planning something big over the summer.

In a word NO, I don’t think this trade is good for us. Really it doesn’t make any sense for either team. We are in limbo and I don’t think we’re getting better any time soon, this trade would contribute to that identity, and I think that’s where the front office is heading.

Not good enough for the playoffs, not bad enough to consistently get high picks. Our franchise is directionless.

We won’t be. I would do Koekkoek probably. Definitely not Nylander.

It's an interesting trade and on paper the value is there for sure. This certainly shakes it up for both teams. I can see Toronto liking this in effort to get McDavid back home down the road and bringing in the final erie otters piece.
