Well, there was no reason for Rangers to add a big name so there's that. But Carolina also overpaid, so the Rangers going out of their way to beat that offer unnecessarily would be stupid.

Trochek's name isn't even that big especially now. He's young, can play center and right wing. Perfect for Rangers. Upgrade over Strome. Carolina did not overpay for him, that return was ridiculous.

Well, a comparable trade from the Rangers would h ave been Strome, Howden, Hajek and another high-level prospect. Is that really what you wanted to do?

first of all trocheck is a big name, he has been playing well. but he is definetly not an upgrade over strome. trocheck has 36 points and strome has 55 points.

i dont think that trocheck would be a good fit in new york. his role is a second line center and we have strome already. strome is the same age and has way more points. so all in all trocheck would have been a bad move for the rangers.

I'm sorry this is Stromes 1st 50+ point season in 6 years. He only had one other. Meanwhile for Trochek, 2 season ago it was this 3rd straight season with over 50 points. 53, 54, 75... Trochek has a bigger ceiling and could easily get back to it with Carolina or NYR playing with Panarin or Kreider in this case. So in the long term outlook, yes Trochek is an upgrade.
