Don’t the Oilers already have a bunch of bottom pairing D? Don’t get me wrong they gave practically nothing for Green, but if they play him in their top 4…. That’s a bad move. His offense is gone, and he’s become a giveaway machine...
Point of the trade deadline is to add players to help you win. Not just add guys for the sake of it. I think this is a bad move, even if it cost almost nothing.
Seems like a big contract to take on (I checked this time). Feel like there are many better options for the Oilers to get. On the plus side, it costed the Oilers basically nothing for Green.

It is half retained you know that right? But ya even for 2.6 mill it might be a bit much.

My only conclusion is that Green is nothing more than a stopgap until Klefbom returns from IR. He's probably only good for PP and maybe 12 mins per game at this point. Clearly there's a trend of GM's trading for former players. Lou brought Andy Greene to NYI last week.

Tippet is playing 3 rookies on D right now - one on each pairing - due to injuries. All it takes is one veteran player to get sick and he's going to have a pretty green backend... this is a smart depth move for a right-shot veteran who still has a little upside left.
