Hate to see the Leafs trade Kapanan as he had another real strong game tonight against the Penguins.

I think Edmonton would rather keep Nuge over Barrie, and Kapanen

Why wouldn't MN just skip the middleman? Or better yet just hang up when this was offered.

RNH is a lateral move from Staal. Same term on their deals, and Staal is a lot cheaper. RNH might be a slight upgrade on Staal, but the contracts more than offset that. I'd rather see MN go after RNH as a UFA in a year.

So it's Dumba for Gagner (yuck, and not needed at all), a 2nd, and Bracco (who has little to no value for MN).

It would take a lot more than a 2nd to give away AA.

Why wouldnt Edmonton just trade that for Dumba straight up if MN was interested. Oilers has plenty of Braccos. They'd get a younger player for multiple years on his contract at a reasonably cost controlled price. Sure, Dumba has not had a full offseason of training to get back to his game after the injury, but Barries best days are behind him while Dumba's isnt. Plus he has a physical aspect to his game.

Unless Larsson signs elsewhere as a UFA I really struggle to see why Edmonton would trade for a right-handed defensemen at all though.

Bear has won his spot. Larsson plays tough minutes. Bouchard is the organizations future top pair RD. And Edmonton has depth guys that can step in as 4th RD.

For the short-term, Edmonton isn't close enough to win to trade for a rental they dont even want to re-sign.

The only reason Detroit is a "divisional opponent" is because the NHL hasn't introduced relegation yet.

AA is poor NHL player. Leafs have no need for him. If he was good, why would the Wings trade him away so cheap?
Leafs certainly don't to that Oiler trades. Trading a needed RHD isn't happening. Plus Kerfoot and Dermot have substantial on ice value and years of control for just 1.5 years of RHN.
Minni sure could get more for Dumba and Staal. You've just offered RHN and a second.

Funny. Yes we are bad, but I remember when Toronto was bad and they got a bunch of high draft picks, Now they are stocked and still might miss the playoffs. Wings will bounce back, might take some time, but under Steve they will.

As far as trading AA for a 2nd, no thanks, he is an RFA for two more years. Makes zero sense.

As far as he is a poor NHL player, I disagree, he is not a puck lugger and there is no one on the Wings like that right now who can carry him and because of it he is misused. On a team like Oilers with McDavid or Av's it would be a lot different I believe.

Oh, I believe will be a good team soon. Picks and cap will really help the Wings soon. Plus Yzerman and the owner will spend to max on and off the ice. And Detroit being in the Eastern Conference still has a lot of attractions to American and Ontario players.
AA sure is a puzzle. But agree with your assessment, that guys like him can find new life sometimes with a better teammates. I put Ristolainen of the Sabres in that category. He's been worn down over the years being on poor teams. If he could share more of the load with good teammates, he would play better.l
