The way I see it, SJ are moving Marleau & Thornton as a favour to them to get a shot at the cup and getting back what they can for them. Avs gain the veteran savvy and cover for the injuries they have at the moment. They could even re-sign with the Sharks the following year to finish in SJ if they wanted to and the Sharks wanted them. Rinse and repeat next year even!!! Labanc is obviously the main piece from the Sharks with the most value.

Pick conditional, becomes 2020 first if Joe and Patrick get a cup ring.

A lot to give up for Labanc plus two 'one and done' veteran rentals (and that's not saying they have no short term value or else why make the trade at all?) Avs give up one of their much vaunted top prospects in Kaut, plus Kamenev who has all of the toolbox, just needing to put it together after being derailed by injuries. Lindholm rounds out the trade as a fringe D with some NHL experience, still comparatively young and RFA at the end of the season. Options to switch Lindholm out if the Sharks would prefer Rosen for example.

Not the Kreider trade Rangers fans were hoping for with COL. Georgiev gives the Avs injury cover for Grubauer and even the option to move on from him or Francouz next year if they choose to.

Barberio gives the Rangers a cheap depth D option. Greer, a physical lower line wing who may be able to move up, and added a 4th as that seemed far too cheap. Probably still is. No idea what the Rangers are really looking for with their goalie quandary. Moving the King and keeping Georgiev? More for Georgiev? The Avs certainly have other different prospects and depth players they could add in.
