Description
This is what I think the leafs SHOULD do at the trade deadline, although i don't think anything will happen.

First off, I don't see Matt Dumba being a suitable option for the leafs. Dumba is not a defensive minded defenseman and doesn't solve the problems that the leafs have. He had an injury last season and just hasn't looked that great this season. Not to mention he has the highest cap hit out of any defenseman i have in this post.

So, for the reason i made this post, what I think the leafs should do. They should go out and get a RD that can complement Morgan Rielly. So.. insert one of Damon Severson, Adam Larsson or Josh Manson. Who all three can be a defensive minded defenseman and support Rielly.

FOR THE TRADES, THE PICKS COULD CHANGE.

Oilers decline easily unless barrie signs for HALF of what he wants right now.

I think in a perfect world the ducks take that trade but unfortunately the market is super high on d men currently

I like the idea of severson but that deal doesn’t work. Dermott is needed till Rielly returns.

Josh Manson checks all the boxes for me of the type of right handed defenceman the Leafs need to acquire and pair with Morgan Rielly. I actually think that he would be such a great fit that I am okay if Leafs over-paid to get him because it would solve the Leafs defence going forward.

If it was one line or pair always falling apart I'd be with you but it's a team defense issue. That's forwards all the way down, and a goalie not stopping pucks. That said, Manson helps solidify things and pushes the RHD depth chart back into alignment (Holl is being to play top RHD right now and he's just not that guy).

LOl that's a terrible trade for the leaf's. 33 points in 61 games!
Adam Larsson at best is a bottom pairing d man. Leafs reject that offer

Edmonton is going to the playoffs, no way they make this deal. The value is off anyhow:

2nd pairing D - for - 3rd pairing rental D + a guy who can't score in the AHL

I think if Toronto makes a play for Manson it happens in the offseason. They can't afford to give up Dermott right now with the injuries they have and I have to imagine if you're acquiring a defenceman he would be involved somehow. Kap+Dermott does not get you Manson, but it might help put together a 3-way deal to pickup Manson.

The other option at this point is to see how the RHD UFA market unfolds. Hamonic, Pietrangelo, Tanev, Demelo, Schultz, Vatanen. Even Gudas, Braun or Shattenkirk. Are they better then Manson? No, but they will just need cap space and money to acquire, which may make the team overall stronger. Those are at least 4 guys with strong to decent fits on Toronto's D core that they should at least kick the tires on before giving up a ton to pickup Manson or Severson.

I haven’t seen anyone more dumb on this site. Larsson is top pairing on a good day, usually second pair. Amazing defensive guy. Whereas barrie... the leafs gets
scored on 50% more when he’s on the ice.

Larsson has been on the ice for 16 goals for and 29 against this year 5v5. He's been negative in that category the last two years, and hasn't been on ice for more goals for than against since 2016-17.

So........

He’s a defensive defenseman.... he’s going to give up more goals than he scores, but not give up a lot of goals. If you don’t hear about him at the end of the game, that’s a good game from him. are you new to hockey? Clearly you don’t understand how this works

If he's on the ice for more goals against than for he's bad. Last year your supposed defensive defenseman was on the ice for the 4th most goals against 5v5 (77). That's significantly more than Tyson Barrie (53). Over the last two combined years has been on for 109 goals against 5v5. That's MORE than Tyson Barrie (105).

The difference is Larrson was only on for 63 goals for during those two years while Barrie was on for 111. Barrie was a positive player while your supposed defensive D got destroyed defensively.

Sorry if easy numbers are too hard for you but facts are facts. If you understood the game at all it wouldn't be so hard to understand. Your defensive D is awful defensively. Facts. His comparable is Cody F-ing Ceci.

But sure...I'm the one new to hockey. Enjoy convincing anyone a guy who compares to Cody Ceci is a good defensive D in the NHL.
