I'm not saying that Toffoli and Martinez are comparable values, just that if a division rival wants him, they're going to have to overpay. Toffoli was expected to get a 2nd round pick and a B prospect as a rental, and ended up getting an A-/B+ prospect from a division rival. Martinez is expected to get a 2nd and a B-/C+ prospect (or 3rd round pick), but would warrant an upgrade on the prospect (B/B+ prospect or 2nd round pick) to a division rival.

If Toffoli had another year remaining on his contract, he would have warranted a significantly higher return. Whereas if Martinez was a pure rental, he would likely warrant only a single draft pick in return.
