1. Jackets easily matches this offer.

2. Babcock doesn't speak French unless the media, fanbase and politician saw him as a McGill alumni. This is kinda ironic because they did hire Toe Blake & Scotty Bowman as Head Coach tho. Yeah I get the point Bowman is from Montreal but he barely spoke French during his tenure in Montreal.

but..... Babcock is a McGill alumni which outweighs all the negative things just like how hiring a French-speaking coach/GM outweighs all the disavantage.

But..... if you look at the underlying numbers, Julien has been fantastic behind the bench. Letting gim go would be a huge error in judgement by Bergevin - and in a year where he has been very good. But take this Leafs fan's opinion with a grain of poutine.

As a leaf fan i would honestly say the Canadiens would really get nothing from hiring Babcock. His value to the leafs was changing the enviroment in the locker room but by the end of his tenure if Dubas didn't fire him the core of this team would probably went "fishing" with him in the middle of lake Ontario forgotten bring him back. He bacame a huge cancer in that locker room. Your issue not coaching but rushing to win a cup when halfway through a rebuild. Kotkaniemi was rushed to the NHL and now they are paying for it. In my opinion they need to realize that they need find a marquee young superstar to sell to Free Agents or talk a marquee FA to sign and make montreal a place every hockey player wants to play in like Toronto did once Matthews, Marner made it look fun to play in toronto again.

we wouldnt let Claude go
he came in to a crap team and put together a good one
until he came Gallagher was used as a 3rd line checker
since CJ arrived he's been a consistent 30 goal guy

Tatar's rebounded under CJ as has Domi , and Armia among others.
Danault became a top 10 faceoff center under CJ improving every years and now just looking outside top 3 in the league .

the issue is he's given less pieces and has to make them into starting line up players which is hard enough but then they give him no one to protect these guys and we're injured constantly .

if you fired Molson today , promoted MB to his job , Timmons to MB 's and fire Kovalev and let Deschamps handle Special Teams as well as Offense.
i think then you'd see impact moves and our offense step up .

our GM's hands are tied as long as Molsons there
its been that way for decades which is why were lucky for Gillettte's ownership drafting 2001-2008 getting us most of the core Molson rode the past decade .

I agree fully my wife family are Habs fans and i'll tell you what i told them they need to truly be all in like the leafs were to a full rebuild. Your GM really has done nothing but won every trade and draft well. It's not his fault no Star FA want to sit down with him. I also told them if the habs were smart this year they would tried to get 1st overall and land Lafreniere he would hopefully give star FA to want to come to Montreal. Anyways i hope they get back to their dominant ways i really want the leafs beat you guys one day in the conference finals wink

I get that you think that. However, From last offseason though Aho did a lot better than many of the RFA's except for marner. I don't think Columbus wants to give him that much, look at what happened with Werenski

What happened with Werenski?

PLD is most of the offense in Columbus. They only reason we don’t match is if we can’t afford it and Columbus as a ton of cap room.... I’d bet PLD gets an 8x8 contract with Columbus and would like for more years on an offersheet.

werenski is a very good young defensemen in the NHL and had to take the 3 x5. I think PLD has great potential but don't see columbus currently throwing all that money at him if hes not an 8 million dollar player now.

If he’s doesn’t take a long term contract till be around 5mil for 3 years, but if he gets an offersheet for more they’ll match until it’s a big enough of an over pay that they’d rather have the picks.

Probably could get him for the upper limit of a 2nd round pick, that being said it would only be if Columbus doesn’t see him in their future plans.
