I dont think Dumba to the Leafs works but if it does

Description
From what Minni fans have said is they need a young C with upside and we simply don't have it.

I think a Dermott plus young forward trade would make sense but the problem is who is that forward.

The most obvious choice is Kapanen. A guy under 25 with one game breaking skill (speed) who has proven good at evens and PK and can likely be a staple on a second line. The problem is he's not a C.

Kerfoot: I doubt he had the upside they want. And with Kadri gone we need him and guys like Engvall to play 3rd line C and second line C if there are injuries.

A guy like Brooks doesn't have the upside

A guy like SDA may have the upside but he has a very low floor so I doubt he has the value.

Our best forward prospect is a winger (Robertson) and I'm not convinced I'd be willing to add much to him in a trade anyway.

You've gotta stop trading the name Dumba and start trading the actual player Dumba. He's not that good. Not saying this is the deal for him, but you constantly overrate him on every Leafs trade (then complain about Leafs fans lol). But he's not worth a huge haul. & I doubt he gets the centre the Wild want. Brodin likely gets the centre, and Dumba will get the right handed shot they want (likely Kapanen if it's Toronto). But you trading the name Dumba is what's overrating him

Here’s the rub. According to rumors Leafs offered Kerfoot Ceci and a couple of mid level prospects. Minny said - Nylander.

And the reality is, as much as Leafs fans don’t want to hear it, if they are not willing to offer Nylander, or a 1st and Sandin or Lilly - they don’t even need to bother calling. Dumba is 25, has term and will be sought after....hard...if Wild are serious about moving him.

Until he got hurt last year he was considered one of the front runners for the Norris. He has not been the same since returning but at 25 i doubt he’s slumped ftom a 50 point guy to a 30 point guy permanently.

This seems to be the typical modus operandi of a lot of Leafs fans on this site. Target the guy they want, ie Pesce, Manson, Dumba, then spend the next month telling us how bad he is to justify lowball offers.

In all honesty that's the point of the post. I don't think we match because I don't think we have what they need

Dumba is a Norris candidate the same way PK was, hard shooting point producer but Minnesota has a very solid defence that takes the defensive pressure off Dumba. Spurgeon and Bordin are under rated plus they have Suter who should have won the Norris when PK did. I don't think he will be as effective as a Leaf, same way Barrie has been torn apart at points this season.

That's kind of my point. I think if Kapanen were a centre there is a deal to be made around him. But he's a winger.

See my blurb above. I don't think we have the pieces. I think if Kapanen were a c a deal could be made around him. But he's not

Ya, i was not talking about your offer specifically. Just the notion of the other poster saying he wasn’t very good.

They are short in right shot wings. A Kap package might get it done if they decide to go that route.

Interesting I didn't realize that. I think Kapanen and Dermott would make sense. Dermott is younger has upside but not the same level. Lemme try something.

you make my point even more.

he WAS on PACE for 50 points (didn't actually get that much) before he got hurt. Which means he very well might not of fully recovered from the injury, it could be a career lingering one which could hinder his play. You never know. If you look at his career underlying numbers, he's not really reliable defensively and basically needs a babysitter to keep from looking humiliated. Those types of guys are pretty common actually. Leafs have one in Barrie and no one would ever suggest Barrie was ever worth the packages that people throw around for Dumba.

It's the "Leafs factor" on this stupid site. People hear that Toronto has simply checked in on a guy, and just because they're interested it HAS to be a major haul. It's pretty comical to see all the time but is still absurd.

He hit 50 the year before. 22 in 32 games last year. Of course hd didn’t get there seeing how he missed 2/3 of the season. 🙄

Yes he struggles defensively. So does Erik Karlsson. No Dumba is not Karlsson, he’s not even Krug. But offensive defenseman don’t grow on trees either. Combine with Wild have zero need to move him and he is not going for 3rd liner, cap dump, crap prospects. The Wild don’t get what they want they just keep him, 🤷🏻‍♂️

Leafs proposed Kerfoot, Ceci, and two prospects not in their top 10 supposedly. What would you call that. All-stars? I suppose Nic Petan and Ceci with a 3rd is plenty in your eyes. Lol.

If the Leafs trade one of their big 4 it should be Marner due to value on contracts. Not Nylander.
