Defensively responsible veteran who sticks up for the boys at a minimal cap hit you can just bury if need be, I don't see an issue.

I feel like ANA paid for the man more than the hockey player. He will bring pride to the team even if in those two years, ANA might not compete to reach playoffs.

He's a man really loved by his coach and by fans. The 2nd year is easy to swallow.

edit : We can add that ANA traded for him this summer (4th rd!) so they really like him there

This is a guy whose primary worth seldom shows up on the score sheet. I'm glad that Anaheim re-signed him. Every coach in the NHL who expects to win the Stanley Cup would want him on the roster.

Leafs are a good example of a team this decade who are in dire need of a player like this. They just acquired that in Clifford. Your view of hockey is what is ruining the game and ending careers.

Clifford is a passable possession driver, though. Deslauriers is not. There are plenty of gritty guys who are good at maintaining momentum, such as Marcus Foligno and Garnet Hathaway. Deslauriers is a possession black hole, and it doesn't have to be that way for "tough" players.

Just look at this possession chart. Now look at that of Ryan Reaves. Reaves performs about average relative to his team, while Deslauriers is where momentum goes to die.
