I like both Strome and Kotkaniemi though I think in both cases the other team would owe Wild additional picks or prospects.

still a homer.. lmao

Ok so I already know that your response will be that I'm a homer and while yes I'm a Habs fan and yes Kotkaniemi is my favourite player (because he's 5 days older than me) I'm going to explain why Montreal won't do this trade atleast under the current management regime so please read this before just dismissing me k thanks.

First off, why they wouldn't do this trade in general, trading away a young player is always a risk and this is an unnecessary one since Dumba is a Right D which is Montreal's strong side of the defence and which already has roughly 13 million in cap tied up for next year already without adding Dumba's 6 million for the next 3 seasons (a span in which Gallagher Danault Suzuki Armia Lehkonen Mete Fleury Brooks Juulsen and Primeau have to be signed). While Petry is gone after next Season we have 3 solid RD prospects who can play 2nd pair in a year or 2 we dont have a Weber replacement but at the rate hes been going we wont need one for another few years (and if hes injured were tanking not buying Dumba). Yes getting Dumba is a good move in general it doesn't make sense with the current situation of the habs.

Now why this management regime won't do this trade it's quite simple it's what I like to call a pink move that's where you do something and its basically like asking for a pink slip because Bergevin already reached for him at 3rd overall and then trading him is just asking for him to be fired.

Bergevin's job should already be on the line. He's done nothing with the roster when he's had a ton of cap space to work with. He drafted Kotkaniemi as a reach (as you even said) out of a positional need rather than a "best player available" basis. At #3 overall you better hope that player works out or your screwed. He signed Carey Price to a ridiculous overpayment of a contract. .. none of that says he's the GM for the job. All he's realistically done is draft decently well, and make one good trade for Domi. Other than that he really hasn't done anything to say he's done a good job.

#FireBergevin

& after Weber hits LTIR and Petry is either moved or contract runs out, the right side is incredibly weak. Even more reason to make an effort for Dumba. But everyone knows he won't cause he doesn't pull the trigger on deals like that.
