I mean this is great until you realize you’re paying Anthony Cirelli 7 million a season for 6 years

I think Gardiner is too big of an add with Suzuki and the 1st. Gardiner gets a ton of shade but I think he's really a solid player and his contract is fine. Apparently he's also sort of found a home in Carolina with Hamilton out. I wouldn't mind offer sheeting Cirelli at all but that's too much for him IMO.

You're right, I made it 6.25 for 5 years and he's an RFA again after that too

Ufa after that. He’d be a ufa if it was a 4 year deal even.

It’s wrong. It’s a bug. 7 years of pro service? Ufa.

its wrong. his birthday is july 1997. he will be 23 this year. he will turn 27 going into his final year. he would be an rfa on a 4 year deal since he turns 27 after ufa starts.

Cirelli is better than Hayes, younger and better defensively

Oh okay I thought he would only be at 6 years, didn't realize he has played so much, good to know there's a bug to watch out for.

You're right, maybe you load up a 4 year deal then to get him as an RFA again. Interesting.

No it's actually right, his birthday is after July 1st and he would be at 6 nhl seasons and be 26 after a 4 year deal. RFA.

For like 97% of guys, if they’re signing a 3 year deal or below coming off their entry level, they’re rfa. Anything above 3 and they’re ufa. Add up the years they’ve spent playing pro hockey. If it’s 7+ at the end of the real, they’re ufa.

Negative. 7 years pro service? Ufa. Don’t bring up Meier, there’s a difference here

I just tested it by re-signing him in Tampa to a 4 year and he came up RFA at the end of it. That's not a bug. It's 7 years of NHL (not just pro) or 27 years old on July 1st.

He would only be at 6 years. He only played 18 games the first year, you need to play 40 to burn an RFA season.

"A player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) if their current contract ends after either 7 Accrued Seasons or they are 27 or older as of June 30. An Accrued Season is defined as a year in which a skater is on an NHL roster for at least 40 games"

Jordan Staal is making 6 mill. Cirelli for 5 years at 6.4 is a steal imo

Not if you got those games in the ahl, which he did.

UFA after 4 years.

it's NHL SEASONS man. This is the exact wording. "A player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) if their current contract ends after either 7 Accrued Seasons or they are 27 or older as of June 30. An Accrued Season is defined as a year in which a skater is on an NHL roster for at least 40 games"

I can cite the exact section when I’m at my computer. He’s a ufa. There’s accrued seasons when it comes to ufa, entry, all sorts of other things. Also nhl rosters don’t have games, they have days. It’s a 186 day schedule I believe. If you want when I’m home I can get you the info. Remind me.

Take a look at mark stones hockeydb and tell me how he was scheduled to be a ufa when he signed with Vegas
