From what Engvall has displayed to date, which is a small sample size, mind you, it seems like a good economical deal. If he can learn to better in the face-off dot and handle 3C duties, this will become a steal of a deal. The issue is not the contract, it is the Leafs' cap situation, which Dubas basically did to himself, and which is why you will likely see 2 of Johnsson, Kerfoot and Kapanen moved during the offseason.

I'd argue the opposite. Look at his stats.

All Dubus did was chose long-term signings over short term, it's a far stretch to claim any of the Leafs are "overpaid" when in 2 years from now all those 6.5 and 7 million dollar RFAs are all owed 8/9 million QO and the cap has risen and they all sign 11/13 million dollar deals all while the Leafs enjoy top production for 2 seasons beyond that at bargain prices. Nothing Dubus has done is signed is short sighted or any way a negative against the future cap of this team

Where did I write overpaid? You are making assumptions about what I am talking about, which is fine, but don't claim that I said things just because you'd like to assume it.

My apologies, I did assume based on the "Dubus did this himself" statement. None of Kerfoot, Kapenen or Johnsson have been part of the long game for the Leafs so it's very likely 2 of the three are moved at the deadline or offseason in order to free up space to add on the blue line

I'm getting awfully close to handing out infractions to people who post player signings in the AGM section....... The AGM section is NOT A NEWS FEED.

Not only is it annoying enough, the thing that really puts a cherry on top is that this was posted AFTER Capfriendly created a forum thread specifically to talk about this signing here:

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/306774

BTW This isn't directed only at you @ASoftDumpInTheCorner but a myriad of people who've posted the same thing in the past. There's no excuses, CF now prompts you before clicking "submit" to say :

"Does your team meet these requirements?
Name and description relate to this Armchair-GM roster below
This team is not being published for unrelated general discussion that is more suitable in a different forum section"

$1.25 million for a 3rd liner that expires as an RFA. Definitely not an overpayment.

Its not an overpayment, and taken in isolation a good re-sign...but a team that has such a lopsided salaries on the top two lines, cant really afford a third line making almost 8 mil. With a 4th line and a 13th forward of league minimums, you're spending almost 56-58million at forward, with in all likelihood a very weak 4th line.
And when your defense is as weak as the leafs, that's not a winning formula.

Even by the lineup above, that's a solid 3 forward lines, and a very weak defense, and even plugging in 800k each for the remaining 6 players, under this yrs cap, it leaves you with just 4-6mil to address that defense?
