You don't trade Kapanen to save money. He's too valuable a player, and asset, to just let him for futures, which is basically all your deal is. Puljujärvi is simply a whole heap of potential, but only just that, and because of how bad the Oilers messed up developing him, they will be selling low on him, regardless of how he is doing back in Finland. As far as I am concerned, the cost of Kapanen would be Evan Bouchard. Kapanen is a young fringe top-6 player, with incredible speed, great hands and on a team-friendly contract. On probably 20 other teams in this league, he would already be given a significant chance to play top line minutes. So, before you think getting rid of Kapanen just for the sake of it is the way to go, think about the value of the asset you are giving up, cause it surely is not Puljujärvi and draft picks.
