thats wayyy to much for patrick kane man. a 7th rd pick should suffice. i mean you're only trading for one of the greatest players of this past decade right? thats not a big deal

We all know JR had to overpay a bit to get the Zucker deal done but it was worth it and only real ones will understand. And don't let that get you twisted about what a 1st can actually get you. Just remember this is the same man who gave a 1st to get Reaves, he just does what he has to to get what he wants. In reality a 1st is worth a lot more than you think and so are prospects. Look at any deal involving a superstar from Kessel to Karlsson

Chicago will then trade Saad, Boqvist, Entwistle and those picks back for Crosby

Karlsson was a pending UFA that Ottawa was not going to sign and everyone knew it.
Kessel was traded because he had to be. Not because someone made an offer they couldn't refuse.

smile As long as there's salary retained. Saad and Boqvist are better than any single piece in the previous trade...

I can't believed I missed this at first... Are you saying giving a 1st rounder for Reaves was a good thing? I understand what JR did in real life, BUT the reason the Blues did it is pretty well outlined in the link below.

Were you referring to Kessel in Toronto? That sort of applies also but for different reasons. They were widely known to be rebuilding and he was their best asset to trade. So they technically still HAD to trade him. Kind of hard to rebuild if you keep all your highest paid players.
