Kapanen

Description
Anyone give any credibility to that "Mike Litorus" account on twitter? He broke the trade with LA perfectly, literally a few hours before it happened. He recently tweeted a big trade is coming because of a few players being very toxic in the room. He did not mention any names but based on recency, I'd have to guess its Kapanen?

Anyways, maybe the Leafs do move Kapanen before the deadline for a defence plus 3C upgrade. New Jersey just seems like the ideal trade partner for the Leafs right now, a bad/non-playoff team with pieces the Leafs need.

If it is true, I wouldn't be shocked if the guy going the other way is Dumba instead. Leafs have reportedly been all over him and Elliotte Friedman has mentioned a possibility of Dumba to the Leafs a number of times. & he was also the one that said the Leafs were highly in on Campbell just a few hours before that trade broke. Kapanen seems to fit in Minnesota well too so there could be something there. Leafs are supposed to find out today what Rielly's status is for the rest of the season and if he's out it opens up more room to bring in Dumba.. could be a deal made soon

Doubt if Kapanen is toxic as you suggest. Maybe one of those trades happen cause two trades leave the Leafs weak on the wing if Aberg is in the top12, and no other NHL forward depth.

I hope not. Dumba is downgrade defensively on literally Ceci. He is bad. Offensively talented of course.

Who do you think the other guy(s) are?

As for the trades, I've said in the Leafs forum section that they don't get better on defense by trading Dermott.

Put Mason Marchment in the top 12, instead of Aberg then. Maybe I overpaid for DeMelo and don't really need to add in Gauthier, but I tried to make the cap work there. But ideally, I would like to see the leafs trade with New Jersey.

He's basically a right handed Dion Phaneuf 2.0.
He hasn't been brutal defensively but I worry about him not coming back strong after a pretty serious injury. I think he fits Keefe system better and would be a good fit on Toronto. Could shelter him a bit by playing him with Muzzin if needed. & if Kapanen is becoming a locker room issue then it makes sense to have him be the centre piece of the deal. I wouldn't overspend if I was Toronto but Minnesota would be selling low on Dumba if they moved him right now anyways so it might be a low risk, high reward situation for the Leafs

Id keep Dermott because I dont believe they would want Sandin to be on their playoff defense his first year. Especially against Tampa/Boston.

Other guys? Meh.. I would not be surprised if its Barrie or Mango. Mango more likely than Barrie. But there is something really weird about Barrie in Toronto that makes me think that he wont be a Leaf after deadline. Also Ceci is done as Leaf, hopefully all people know that.

It's already well known that he's overslept for multiple practices. One was even at noon.. so there's definitely logic behind it. Leafs are a team that preach accountability so it makes a ton of sense that these actions could be making Kapanen a problem internally

His defensive impact is one of the worst Ive seen. Boy is lucky to have Brodin on his pair man.. he is bad defensively. Phaneuf 2.0 exactly. Leafs need defensive D who can skate well.

Also worth noting that the team he plays for sucks.. he might not be motivated. A change of scenery and environment does wonders to guys sometimes

I get it, but he broke the Campbell trade hours before it actually happened. Certainly there has to be some credibility there and not just some clown hiding behind a fake joke name.

Trading Dermott before you know the health status of Rielly is risky. Think of how limited Gardner and Dermott were in the playoffs last year and the Leafs had no better options. I don't think you get Demelo for that **** soup of players you threw at Ottawa, they have little reason to want that return for him.

Jersey trade is not great, they probably get more of a return on those guys (if they want to trade them) by splitting them up. Severson is kind of like Dumba, not great in the defensive end and thus may not be a great fit for the Leafs. Frankly, if that's the trade they make, they're probably better, but trading Dermott right now is risky.

Of course it does. I would not be surprised if he is much improved in Toronto, but still not the type of guy we need frankly.

Friedman has said it multiple times that the Leafs have checked in on Dumba. Clearly showing they have interest. And Friedman is a pretty good source around the league.

Again, a change of scenery can greatly benefit guys. And Dumba fits Keefe up tempo system. Look at Kovalchuk. Everyone said he was done when he left LA, then he goes to Montreal and he looks like a brand new motivated player. I mean if you don't want Dumba, have fun going with a right side of Barrie, Holl, and whoever right now..

Exactly what toronto needs is a defensively reliable partner for Rielly. He is not that.

I dont think he would be better. Also.. what would be the point in bringing a guy in who doesnt fill your need but forces other guy to fill that need. You can literally keep Barrie if thats the case.

Friedman has quoted the same exact check in multiple times, that doesnt mean the leafs have checked in multiple times, also Freids hasnt been a good insider in years and even when he was good he was never great
and a change of scenery does not make a player into a different type of player. Matt Dumba is Tyson Barrie who will hit a dude some times. That is what he is, he will never be more than that.
