Description
NJ looses a solid rhd and a great defensive forward on a great contract. They get a top 6 lw, a 23 year old lhd dman with top 4 potential and a b level prospect. 2nd is to even out value.

Ott gets a solid offensive C prospect for DeMelo. Wasn’t sure pp% on this, but the leafs could throw in a lower level prospect or mid pick to depending on Ottawa’s want.

Vegas gets some offensive help on the back end. Leafs recoup some picks.

Add at least a 3rd to the Ottawa deal. SDA is a decent prospect, but he's being carried by better players in Liam Kirk and Nic Robertson, and he has a total lack of any goalscoring ability which makes me think he won't ever pan out.

You’re not even going to mention Coleman? He’s having a pretty darn good year, and that deal gets declined without second thought.

That defensive fwd already has 10 more pts than AJ on this s#!tbag team. Doesn't sniff PP time and is top of the league in shorties. So if we go with him vs AJ no. That leaves Severson for Dermott the second and obligatory Bracco throw in.
Let me give you the stuff I don't want and I'll give you a cost controlled 24 yr old rhd.

this statement is not totally true he does have 3 pp points 1 goal 2 assists, and he averages about 0:30/per game which is almost nothing and Coleman is having his best season so far as a 28 year old but is averaged over his career .39 ppg and johnsson is 25 on a very nice deal and this season averages .50 ppg which is low compared to his career numbers at .54 ppg so realistically you are getting a younger better offensively player who is going to help the pp, for a player who is older with less term who on average doenst score as much but is much better defensively, i think that swap works well for both teams.

now for severson i agree dermott is young and could be very good or could be just ok we dont know yet. so the second doesnt quite cut it, if i was doing the trade i would swap AJ for kappy and use the extra trade value to go towards severson and the second with barcco should be enough to get it done.

A few thoughts here. I don't know that adding two RHD is imperative at this point. Adding one will help solidify that side for at least this season and then you can look at making more moves if you like in the offseason. The cost to acquire Demelo should be reasonable and he has had a great year. But, he's a rental and the Leafs don't love that. Still I think he's a great target and if he gets some chemistry with Rielly he may be willing to stay.

Jersey trade is tough. Coleman is worth a lot to them and I can't imagine the Leafs need to pony up to meet that price. Severson is a solid defenceman but not the type of Dzone first guy you'd like to see paired with Rielly. There's a reason Jersey fans are often willing to get rid of him.

While flipping Barrie for picks at this point is enticing (and trust me I don't love him) you want to go into the playoffs with the strongest roster you can. As well, including Dermott in any deadline trade when you aren't 100% sure how quickly Rielly will come back is very risky. I see Dermott being moved in the offseason (if at all) for this reason.
