murray & simon will cost more than that. might be able to get jarry and mccann to sign for a bit less. i think bjugstad gets dumped before horny but if the cap is a problem they could move both, although i would like a foward in return for a least one of them

if jj gets 3.25 million i would have to imagine a fa at 2.4 will be a downgrade. i still think we'll have to give up an asset to get rid of him. i would almost prefer to hold onto him for one more year & give seattle a pick to take him in the expansion draft

if Hornqvist doesn't fit into a fast temp system in Pittsburgh, he's never going to be the right fix in EDM which wants to play the same fast N/S game with McDavid.
They aren't taking him. Seattle 2021-22

EDM GM has a sign in his window '' will do anything for top 6 forwards ''

Mcdavid leads the league with players MTL wouldnt use on their roster outside Laval Rocket and a player MTL got rid of because of his drinking and drug problems leading to off ice legal issues forcing us to cast him off. Mcdavid's taking Leftovers and making it work .

to suggest they wouldnt take PH is by definition counter productive when you consider who's playing there in his stead .

Holland was brought in to fix this issue which is why he was in on Hall until the very end and being in on kovalchuk and kreider currently .

but ofcourse they draw the line as a Stanley cup Winning Leadership piece who plays a defensive game of which Edm has few prospects who can .

yeah Hornqvist isn't a top 6 forward anymore. That's the part you aren't grasping.
He's 33, he's only getting older. He's hurt often. I like the guy. I still think he has 1 good year of hockey left in him. But even the penguins don't want to hold that contract much longer than that.
Why would EDM. Believe me, no team is that desperate.

are you suggesting he's less skilled then Joakin Nygard , Josh Archibald , or Zack Kassian .
RNH is the only top 6 that's worked out all year long .

EDM got lucky with Yammamoto being called up as he fit right in beside Drisatl and RNH .
Mcdavid though has spent all year with Nygard , Archibald and Kassian on wing .

2/3 were rejects and the other is a European 1st year who's produced less beside Mcdavid then Thompson has beside Cousins and Weal .

I get in PIT he isnt and i dont give to craps about PIT use for him
We're talking about EDM who's GM's been in on every winger this year available including Kovalchuk with the intention of them playing with Mcdavid over Archibald or Nygard .

Remember Kovalchuk ? the guy you told me wouldnt work out in MTL as arrogantly as you now are saying about Hornqvist ?
Just saying if you learned from your mistakes this site would be a better place .

His top linemates - by far - are Kassian and Draisaitl. Leon has only been away from McDavid since December 30th.

As far as offense goes, that's not bad company: Draisaitl is 2nd in the league in 5v5 points and Kassian is tied for 48th, while McDavid is 4th. At the time McDavid and Draisaitl were split, the trio were #1 (McDavid, 33 points), #3 (Draisaitl, 31) and #15 (Kassian, 24).

McDavid has played 907:25 at 5v5.

Nygard was with him for 53:52 of that time.
Archibald was with him for 110:46 of that time.

so you're comfortable playing the system you got with the forwards you have then?

Edmonton needs more quality forwards, there's no question. (Who doesn't?) McDavid is out for the next 2-3 weeks, so this is crunch time for this team - time to prove themselves (or not). I think Holland will be looking to add at the deadline, but (a) not if the team crashes and burns in the next 2 weeks, (b) he won't overpay for a rental. I think a young forward with term is his choice of target - say Kasperi Kapanen or Max Domi, for instance. There's a reason he's already got most of next year's RFA signings nailed down already...

But this AGM has EDM taking on $8.5M cap hit for THREE future years for marginal players, which is ridiculous.

Holland as per Elliotte Friedman was heavily in on Hall but wouldnt give up JP in the deal so ARZ won .
Holland as per Elliotte Friedman is currently heavily targeting Kreider .
Holland as Per Eric Engles is 1/3 teams trying to acquire Kovalchuk including BOS and STL .

i've never seen them target a RFA or heard about them calling about an RFA's price outside Josh Anderson who trade talks seem to immediately end after they asked for Broberg in the package.

i mean there are still a ton of RFA options out there that could fit though at a reasonable price .
AA from DET seems like the most obvious one given his less then Stellar year i dont think DET asking price is as high as last years and he would fit your system like a glove

- Pretty sure it was the 1st he wouldn't give up in a Hall deal.
- He's in on Kreider but I don't think he pulls the trigger without reassurance he'll re-sign.*
- Kovalchuk isn't expected to cost much, hence the calls.

* Another executive said he wouldn’t give up a first for nearly any rental out there but felt like Kreider was worth the exception. With a caveat. “I would trade a (first-round pick) for Kreider only if you’re comfortable you can re-sign him,” he said. “Then it makes all the sense in the world.” - https://theathletic.com/1598173/2020/02/11/nhl-trade-big-board-2-0-23-players-who-could-move-before-the-deadline/

I never said Kovy in MTL wouldn't work out. I said he sucks. I stand by that. All he does is cherry pick.

and the question isn't if he's better than guys like archie, it's is he worth taking on a 5 million cap hit for the next 3 years. And the answer to that is no.
