My initial reaction was that the Wild got a steal, but the more I think about it the more I think this could turn out to be a steal for Pittsburgh. Zucker seems like such a perfect fit next to Crosby and Zucker has proven he can score next to a playmaker (this year with Zuccarello and 3 years ago with Granlund). I would not be surprised to see Zucker end the season with close to 40 goals, and he still has 3 years after this year...
I personally think the Wild robbed the Penguins, but I have a much lower opinion of Zucker (as a player) than most Wild fans. I don’t see him sticking on Crosby’s line as I think he will drive Crosby nuts with his inaccurate passing and poor pass-catching skills. I also think he has the most overrated speed ever...he does have great speed, but he rarely accomplishes anything with it. He will surprise me once in a while with a crafty play, but most of the time he just isn’t a smart player - no glaring weaknesses, but just a whole bunch of small mistakes every game; going off sides, not picking up the right guy back checking, missing the tape on a 10 foot pass, throwing a 10 foot pass 100 miles an hour, having a pass bounce off his stick, missing the net high and wide making a perfect breakout pass for the other team, getting lost in the defensive zone, etc., etc., etc. I sincerely would have taken just the 1st rounder for him if that was the best offer on the table.
I don’t believe him producing more points playing with Crosby has anything to do with his trade value. Heck, I would score a couple goals a year playing on Crosby’s line and I’m 51 years old and 20 pounds overweight!
Anyway...as a player, you can have him! As a person, there isn’t a player in the league I would trade him for!!
