What drives me the most bananas about all of this. Is that I'M ACTUALLY CHEERING for CAR in the East. If I truly didn't care...I wouldn't be typing right now. It drives ME nuts how many YEARS can go by and CAR not have a goalie worth anything. I can't even imagine how frustrating it must to go to these games day in and out. Eddie Lack, Scott Darling, The final years of Ward (Props for his full body of work though), Mrazek has only been admitted to be terrible in the last week, despite it being obvious for months.

CAR is one of the single best positioned teams in the NHL. Farm system...check. Picks...check. Star players locked up...check. GLARING hole that can be fixed...check. It doesn't have to be the (2) guys I think will help the most. (I think UFAs help more than guys with term for future planning purposes) Just go actually get a goalie. Go get Bernier, HECK Go get Duncan the Walrus! Let's just finally stop pretending the CAR has a goalie. THEY DON'T

***EDIT*** Just doing a fact check... Reimer is 18th in the league in GSAA with Dreidger having 9 games part of that...so let's say 17th. Not close to top 10 like you suggest.

Natrual stick has him @ 36th in the league, but admittedly has 8 that are less than the 700 minute benchmark...So remove them all and it's 28th in the league.

Top 10 goalie, also has Mrazek top half. Goaltending is not the issue, you can try spin it however you like, but Reimer is top 10 in xFS%, and lower half in xGA. He's making saves he's not supposed to, Reimer is not the issue here

You're a passionate and knowledgeable Canes fan. If Defense is the issue...I have an idea that sounds crazy at first (admittedly), but I've seen him play a lot this year AND when you actually look at the numbers...it makes sense. Now...this guy isn't (and shouldn't be) on an PURE speed team...he's played REALLY well as a defensive Dman.

Olli Maata. Stay with me! CHI stinks. He's still a Plus 8. Has 86 blocked shots and 95 hits so far this year....That would rank him 2nd in both categories out of everyone on the Canes team as of today. No one said he's a burner, but CAR isn't the fastest team in the league either. Maatta playing on a PIT/TOR/COL/EDM is just a disservice to him and the team. Maatta plays a defensive physical game. He's cost controlled for 3 more years at $4M.

If you believe Defense and Physicality is the issue...why not?

Maatta is a great Dman, except he can't move, He's fine in terms of ability, he just has skating issues. For a team built with so many speedy skaters like Carolina, it's a misfit waiting to happen. If someone like DeMelo is around, he's a much better fit. It's why I dislike the idea of going after Martinez. We need a player who can keep up with skaters, lay the body and play a sound defensive game, and IMO that perfect fit is Brenden Dillon. Maattta has his uses, for sure, but I think that the idea of Maatta with skaters like Necas, Foegele, Aho, Svechnikov, Teravainen, Dzingel who skate circles around D men may cause him issues when he isn't getting forward support.
