If the Leafs continue moving 1sts, they'll find themselves in the same position as the Kings and Hawks, minus the parades

I keep seeing this suggestion and I don't understand why. Dubas basically debunked any notion that he is interested in Martinez (and thank god, because he isn't very good). And why would we want 35 year Jeff Carter for this year and the next 2 after that? Doesn't make sense imo

What they said, plus Carter has threatened to retire if he's traded.

Dubas doesn't want anyone good, because he is afraid of trading his 1st Rd picks and he's afraid of trading one of his top 9 forwards, like they are all golden boys.

Jeff Carter in his prime would have been great (maybe even a Cup parade in Toronto) when years ago it was rumoured the Leafs offered the Flyers a mid 1st Rd pick and a declining Kaberle for him.

Well, the thing is... Jeff Carter isn't in his prime anymore. And that first sentence is based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

Trading next years 1st assured Carolina in getting this years 1st no matter what. If it is in the top 3 then Dubas will get grilled.

I'm gonna stick up a little for Jeff Carter here, at 3 Million he's quite useful as 20 Goal 3 C the man can still finish and would perform well with Soup and Engvall flanking him. He's won, he knows the defensive side of the game, if they can get Spezza again at a million or less along with Gauthier they'd be set up the middle

That's my point, Dubas can't afford to continue the trade 1st Rd pick trend and leave the next GM with an empty cupboard. Dubas was lucky the Leafs had a good prospect group before he came into the GM role, it looks like he'll strip that goldmine bare.
