Should the Sharks just give up

Équipe: 2019-20 Sharks de San Jose
Date de création initiale: 8 févr. 2020
Publié: 8 févr. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
With the Sharks being absolutely terrible, and having their 4 worst contracts each have NTC and extend for at least 5 more years after this one, should they sell off their only valuable assets (who are still young), rather than waste prime years of their careers? I'm not going to go into a full detailed thing, but just do a starting point.

They won’t... just yet

I think this year they won’t make it, but next year they’ll try and be a playoff team. Kinda like the Kings a couple years ago when they got swept by Vegas, they bounced back for one season, then slowly began a tear down

No Problem...I was being a little cheeky LFFSR.
The West is historically weak and the Sharks will be near the basement.
Therefore, I think they should go full tear-down mode and stop fooling themselves. IMO it's officially time to get younger, faster and shake the rust that is Marleau, Thorton, the 'cancer' that is Kane and get a goalkeeper etc. etc.
* FYI as per CapFriendly = 11 NHL-players currently signed by SJ for 2020-21 at US$63.7M. Only 13 more to go and a whopping US$20M estimated leftover...OUCH!!

I know right?!? They have the worst cap situation in the league, bar none. Most teams that are cap strapped are okay with it because it means they're good!! This is just embarrassing. Not to mention that all 4 of those contracts have almost complete NMC (Kane and Burns submit 3 teams that they CAN be traded to, so 28 team no trade list)

I think they move some of those bad contracts as soon as possible. Couture and Kane can be moved. Possibly burns if you retain. Would make for a quicker rebuild.

Other than that... how does this team compete in the next 6 years?

Who takes those deals though? It would be really hard to find a suitor AND Kane, Couture and Burns would all have to waive their respective NTC (each has only 3 teams that they can't reject). Even if they manage to offload some of the deals, I still don't think they do compete in the next 6 years.

What’s the last team in the NHL that any of them would want to play for? Let me answer, the Sharks...

Couture to buffalo for mittelstadt and a 2nd. Burns to Winnipeg 2m retained for a 2nd. Kane to Colorado for Timmins and a 2nd. If you could get a 2021 first rather than a 2nd I would make those deals.

I mean, not necessarily... If you had to play on a **** team, San Jose isn't a bad place to do it. Kane supposedly loves it there, but that may have changed with the way the team is performing. I know Winnipeg is good, but do you really want to go from California to there? And do they want a 34 year old for 6 mill until the end of time? I agree with you that they should unload those deal ASAP, I just think it's easier said than done.
