Seems like a pretty even trade as of today. Kapanen showed the ability to produce as his current rate last year as well while Virtanen didn't. Im not super familiar with the Canucks and therefore i dont know any possible circumstances that might have caused his production to be lower. I know they are both speedy wingers most likely best suited for the 3rd line right wing position on a contending team. Does Virtanen p.k at all? If a swap was to happen i would probably just decline and stick with what we know in Kap. Depending on what Virtanen gets on his new deal next year would also have to be taken into account.

He obviously thinks so, otherwise why would he answer the way he did.

Canucks win. Kapanen is a career 0.45ppg player and Virtanen is a 0.33ppg player. I'm not sure if Virtanen plays on the PK, but Kap is one of our best PK guys. too

Yes. He’s more of a complete player. Also, I’ve heard sometimes Kapanen is an issue in the locker room. I think Kapanen is a good player but Virtanen is more complete.

I think the Leafs would win for a few reasons.

1. Jake is still improving, power forwards take longer to develop and hes really starting to figure the NHL out.

2. He brings an element of physicality that Kap doesnt. Jake is a big boy and can move really well. Hes the fastest skater on the Canucks and causes havoc on the forecheck.

3. Hes probably a bit cheaper. He hasnt signed his next deal yet, but my guess is it will be somewhere around 3M or just below.

4. The only reason that really matters, the shotgun factor. Jake quenches your thirst.

Jake is a big boy is a nice way of saying he has had conditioning issues for years. Hes a big boy because he over eats. Ideally he should probably lose a few pounds. He might have a bit more physicality but i think he would be better if he dropped a few pounds. I dont see how he comes in cheaper than Kapanen next year if hes more valuable. As a baseline he is going to pick Kapanen as a comparable and want at least equal to him. He is arbitration eligible and if he finishes out the year at his current pace i dont see how he doesn't get at least 3.2M.
