Quoting: yikes
I said the sharks would have sent something back if it was Dillon for Addison (not the pens).
But in this situation the move was not Dillon for Addison it was the movement of Galchenyuk and everything I said I don’t get how it “doesn’t make any sense”.
You have a 28 man roster with 2+ mil in cap space and 3 of those guys add to like 12+ mil. If one goes on the LTIR you gain emended cap space. The freedom this would give the pens was the point for the trade. San Jose is taking 8 mil in cap hit. There is a sensible move to the trade I don’t see how there isn’t. A top 4 man, and proper bottom 6 replacement since Galchenyuk is none gone with marleau as marleau has played top 6 time for the sharks a lot and done quite well. Thornton is a great 4C and possible 3C for a cup run if needed. I just think the notion of this makes no sense it’s weird.
Obviously Addison could be changed out but it wouldn’t be for much worse as then the deal makes no sense for the sharks as they could and probably would get a 2nd + more for Dillon, plus something else for jumbo and marleau to wherever they would go. And then be able to take some other teams contract and gain an additional asset since Galchenyuk isn’t taken.
They don't need to move addison to dump Galchenyuk.
There is so much wrong with this that I frankly don't like but you will never agree with.
PM as a top 6 forward is nonsense. SJS is one of the worst teams in the league. Where does a guy on one of the worst teams in the league fit in on playoff contenders. In TOR PM was a 3rd/4th liner.
It's no different for the penguins. It doesn't solve a top 6 role problem and the penguins have enough 3/4th liners.
I also don't like the idea of SJS trading JT to begin with. Yeah he's a 4th liner on the penguins probably. Could he help out, possibly. I'm not going to argue that. But he's slow. So he probably doesn't fit well. On top of it, that's not how SJS should be handling this. JT should be able to choose where he goes without it being a fuss. SJS shouldn't be expecting anything in return. Be classy about letting him go where he wants on his last run. It's not like it matter to SJS anymore.
What you have here is basically Dillon for Addison with the belief that adding chucky is added value.
It's not.
If the penguins want to dump Chucky they could. It doesn't cost anything to move him. They just give him up for free somewhere.
There are teams out there who would like a try before you buy on him instead of wasting a signing on him if it doesn't work out.
If it costs nothing to get him, someone would take that run. Much like I could see a team doing the same for Vesey in BUF if they cut him lose like that.
