Domi

Explications
Some rumors floating out there. Not necessarily the first guy I would try to get... and his next contract could complicate things but it could be interesting.

Poulin is dominating in the Q on one of the best CHL teams. He's the big piece here that Montreal would want.

Ignore the negative cap number. The Penguins have over $5 million in projected deadline cap space. They can also put Guentzel on LTIR.

Not enough to make MB think... Theres not even a 2020 first included. Domi is a young, established and skilled center who plays with passion. Theres no need for MTL to trade him for a package less great than what they got for patch.

If I was a Habs fan and Bergevin made that trade I'd be calling for him to be fired.

interesting deal, montreal definitely has to part ways with a center and domi may be that guy, but it will take more than a top prospect and a 50th overall pick to land him. Remember Domi will be RFA not UFA.

I like Domi as a player. And I'm not going to debate whatever the value is.
But Domi is a hot head. Given how heated "some rivalry" get and his inability to keep his cool. Plus given he can't really "back it up" on some of those guys. I don't think this would be the wisest guy for the penguins to pick up.
He's be the guy takes a lot of penalties and then prevents them from getting on the power play when they goat him into something stupid.

as far as i have read, he's been listed as a B plus prospect who can develop into a middle 6 player with offensive potential. he's not even considered a top 30 prospect in the league. in fact i have never read his name in the top 50 neither

Domi has scored 60 or more points 1 time in his nhl career. He’s not even on pace this year for 60. He’s more than likely going to score 50 this year. Poulin is a great prospect I’m not saying he tips the scales to make this trade more fair (he’s realistically a B B+) but you are clearly glorifying Domi. He’s a solid top 6 player but he’s far from Elite or whatever you are hinting at.

Correct, but a B+ prospect and a low 2nd is not enough to land a top-6 forward in his prime. Habs need young D. Here's a counter-offer: Marino for Domi, straight up.

That would be interesting. Value is there. Imo. Maybe Addison and a pick ?

Marino is literally one of the most important players on the team. He's a shut-down RHD that can skate and is 22 on an ELC. That's insane.

Domi has value but it isn't as high as an equivalent player with a contract. There's uncertainty there wether that be with arbitration or negotiations. There's also the fact that he's an a lot of inconsistency in his career and is fairly flawed. Good player but there's a reason he's been traded once already.

Yeah, I think that could work. For a raw prospect though, it would need to be a 2020 1st. 2020 picks are especially important considering MTL's timeframe and the fact that the draft is in Montreal.

He's a superb playmaker and a decent shooter. He's in his prime, with room to grow. The problem with the Habs is that he doesn't fit at center (Suzuki has displaced him and we need to prioritize youth), and we've got other playmaking options at LW (especially Drouin, a very similar player). PIT needs a top-9 center, and Domi would fit. Arbitration concerns are overblown, especially since his stats this season aren't as great as last season, which should deflate his asking price.

The Penguins absolutely do not need a top 9 C. Domi is ideally a winger. Jared McCann played 2C for most of the year and did a good job. He's currently playing LW because Guentzel got injured. Blueger centers the shut-down line that get's 3rd line minutes and plays a against top competition. Bjugstad is about to return from injury. The team also has Crosby and Malkin.

Domi is an imperfect asset. Talented but there are a few issues there. Marino is about as valuable a young player a team can have. Management views him as a future no. 1 guy. That's a crazy counteroffer.

You may think so, but it's the going rate. Domi is arguably better at LW, so if it's a top-6 winger you need, you're set. The Addison offer may be a better fit for a Pens team that wants to contend now and in the near future, but Domi for Marino straight up is still fair value (no matter how much you overvalue Marino based on less than a season of NHL play).

Less than half a season of NHL play and the skillset is obvious. The skating, zone exits, and gap control are all there. This isn't "he shot scored a bunch of goals shooting 25%" or some limited sample size thing like that. And I'm telling you what management and coaching staff thinks of him. His underlying D numbers are elite. You are clearly undervaluing the guy.

Addison right now is a reasonable ask because he's a few years from being ready and isn't a sure thing. If he were a rookie and living up to his billing as a good pucking moving young D on an ELC, then that would also be an absurd ask.

Young established D rarely get moved because they are so valuable. That's the reality of the league (unless you are the Anaheim Ducks who keep trading them for whatever reason)

Literally the LAST thing the pens need is a top 9 center lol. We are trying to get rid of one cause we already have like 6.

Again, half a season is not "established", no matter how good Marino looks. Remember: Galchenyuk had a superb rookie season, and what do you think of him now? Still, I would do the Addison deal instead, since I think it makes sense for both teams' timeframes.

You forgot that everyone on the pens sucks and is a cap dump. All the prospects are b+ prospects at best (even though they keep coming up and being regulars in the top 9).
Montreal would be doing us a favor by doing Marino for domi straight up. In their minds it should really be Marino and 3 1sts for Domi.

Even in Galchenyuk's "superb" rookie year, he was limited defensively and had some of the same issues he has now.

For me this just isn't enticing enough for MTL to move Domi. Addison would be the more interesting prospect to include in the deal imo, even then.

I think we need to get something out of the way here though. Domi isn't on the trade block. Habs are just in a similar situation like previous years where they have a lot of depth at a certain position (LW, and now more recently Center) and Domi is just someone, technically, MTL can afford to move to get a good return. Habs still have no issues with keeping him though. He's under team control for the next 3 years at least, he's still young and an established top 6 player. Personally, over the next 2 seasons, one of Tatar of Domi will be traded, not both.

LOL at all the habs fans here who think Poulin is a B prospect. The guy is absolutely lighting up the Q but go on and talk about stuff you people know nothing about. I wouldntt do this trade from the pens side, you can get a deal done for domi that doesnt include poulin.

at age 23, at his first full season he puts up 60 plus points. yes this yers been a struggle. he was a ppg before injuries effected the whole team. the only line not effected was the gally line. this package isn't good enough

People undervalue Domi based on a bad season where he's been moved from Center to Wing. The guy is still a stud. Poulin and a late first wouldn't get it done, nevermind a late second..

I don’t disagree that this package doesn’t get it done but Domi is a 50 point winger. I’d say he’s worth a 1st and maybe an okay to good prospect
