A few thoughts on Anisimov. A) He is NOT that bad a player to have around. B) Even with retained salary there's no way he gets a 2nd round pick. C) He probably gets us a better return next year when he is just a rental. Added to that, judging by his struggles at the WJC against kids just a year older, Byfield is NOT likely NHL ready next season, and sure as hell not top 6 ready. Keep Anisimov.

As much as I love BORO, with a healthy Wolanin and Mike Reilly BOTH under contract for 20-21... it might be his last season as a Senator. And to be fair, there's no chance DeMelo, as a UFA, is taking a 1 year deal for $1M. That would be super insulting to even propose.

I'm not a Sens fan but I wouldn't do it, TBH. I love Lafreniere but he's no McDavid, getting Byfield + another top talent (the scenario presented in this AGM) will be better for Ottawa than having one very good player. Just for fun, lets cherry pick some players in recent drafts to see how that looks:

Would you rather have Hischier or Patrick + Makar?
Would you rather have MacKinnon or Barkov + Seth Jones?
Would you rather have Matthews or Laine + Tkachuk?
Would you rather have McDavid or Eichel + Marner?
Would you rather have Tavares or Hedman + Brayden Schenn?

If you have #2 + another top-5 pick, you're WAY better off keeping those rather than getting the headliner. Unless, of course, you pick Yakupov. If Ottawa ends up with picks 4 and 5 then they should consider it at least, but I'm not sure why the team holding #1 would do that anyhow.

Byfield will be fine. Got to see him a couple of times. He's absolutely dominating the OHL. He's the only reason why Sudbury's doing anything right now.

Lafreniere struggled at the WJC the year before playing against peers a year older than he was. It doesn't really mean anything.

Also, I agree with Anisimov. Although, I would be worried that he's taking up a roster spot for the abundance of prospect trying to crack the NHL

Amazing... Never actually looked at it that way...

The 1OA are all clearly the best players of the 3 (Except for maybe Hichier).. But having 2 Elite players coming up the system together might actually be better in terms of creating a serious playoff contender.

You think #1 is worth 2 top 5 + 2nd round?

Not when the draft is this deep.

If Lafreniere is as good as they say & there's a decent talent drop from him to the rest..national ppl say they would do that trade

Yes. Ottawa is in a very, very good position heading into this draft - they could end up with as many as 7 picks in the first two rounds. If they play it right, this draft could set them up for the next 20 years.
