Description
I was one of the supporters of Lou when he was hired, because at the time anything was better than Snow. To be fair, he made some savvy moves (Hamonic's trade, the Reinhart trade, Eberle for Strome) but he was Snow and i'm still happy he's gone, but what is going on with Lou? Bloat contracts we don't need (Komarov), absolutely no trading to fill our needs (one trade in his ENTIRE tenure, and it was trading an ECHL goalie to bring back ANOTHER bloat contract in Matt Martin) and complete radio silence. I just want something to happen with this team.

Last season was an evaluation year, I dont like komarov contract but I understood at the time why it was done. It’s the only move of his I’m not a fan of since he was hired. I am judging Lou based on what he does before the deadline, whether that’s external or internal moves.

I think Lou has done an okay job. Not a bad job, not an amazing job. I think he's signed some great contracts aside from Komarov. Lee, Nelson, and Eberle all signed to market value or below. Varlamov is slightly overpaid but has been great this year. I'm not upset about his deal. One thing he did, that I don't think almost any GM would've been able to do, is bring in Barry Trotz. We aren't a great team on paper, but wow Trotz has been a gem. We'd be nothing without him. I have to applaud Lou for bringing him in.

The fact that he hasn't made a trade since July 2018 is bizarre. I don't think there were a ton of players out there I'm upset we didn't trade for (Ryan O'Reilly is probably the only one). There are a lot of non-moves, which is what was the biggest problem with Snow, and that needs to change. I'm willing to wait until this deadline passes to make the full judgment.

I mean, he signed Varlamov and got Anders Lee and Eberle to resign with very competitive deals. I'm not an Isles fan but that's not nothing?

Although I will admit I would have expected him to try and pick up some more offence, but I think he's cautious about adding too much longterm money before Barzal's RFA contract.

Overall I am fine with what Lou has done so far. Not a fan of Komarovs contract but it made sense at the time. He did a solid job with the Lee, Nelson, and Eberle contracts. Last year was for eval I presume, it was his first year in here and he wanted to see what this team could do. This year he is in the market.. Looking for at least a top9 foward and potentially a dman due to the Pelech injury. He wants to do these things without giving up the first which I really like because of how stacked this draft is. The offseason is going to be a big test for him with trying to get Barzy, Pulock, and Toews all back, especially with how tight our cap situation will be. Also need to bring Ilya over. I have high hopes for him but only time will tell. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I am not ecstatic with what he has done so far but I am nowhere near dissapointed either. We are in year 2 of his 5 year plan and things seem to be on track.

Also, he brought in Barry freaking Trotz. I will always love him for that.

Lou has done a fantastic job. He has stored balance in the Islanders organization. At the end of the day, the Komarov contract really is not bad. Maybe he makes $500k too much, big whoop. He does what he needs to. When it comes to trades, he took over a barren farm and has only added talent to it, but the Isles need that talent. Can't be trading away the few prospects they have just because. Plus, he got Trotz.

He had a 5 year plan. Shouldn't get away from that just because the team has a little success.

Lou has done as well you could expect with an organization with a bad reputation. He did everything he could to bring in Panarin, but at the end of the day, we're not OrIgInAl SiX, so we can't sign cream of the crop UFAs. Which is why I'm not getting my hopes up for Hall or even Toffoli this offseason.

Also, it's not like he hasn't been trying to get trades done. He took a shot at signing Stone, but at the end of the day, McPhee was unwilling to part with Stone without a marquee prospect like Dobson. I think history will show that Lou was right to hang on to Dobson; he hasn't been Barzal levels of good as a rookie, but I have no doubt he has elite potiential. We also heard Lou was in on Hall. I'd imagine the price was higher for it being a divisional trade, but we can't say for sure.

Nabbing Trotz was fantastic. Trotz is one of the better coaches in the league, and since he has a talent for turning teams around. So he cares a bit less than other coaches if the organization has a bad reputation.

My only real objection with him right now is that he hasn't overhauled the coaching staff in Bridgeport. Thompson ruins every prospect he touches, and people assume he's good just because he preaches defense and is tough on players. But he's shown he doesn't know how to actually develop talent. I really hope Lou fires Thompson and brings in a coach with a history of developing gems. This needs to get done and it's a joke that it didn't even happen under Snow.
