Oilers would be so excited to have another 3rd/4th liner. Just what we need to add to our team that has almost all 3rd/4th liners. Why get a guy to play McDavid when we can spend our money on a guy that has been injured the last 2 years. ! goal this year for a 3rd round pick, what a deal

Yah, it was reported by a few outlets that Pittsburgh had zero interest in Kovy as a UFA, I dont think there is a chance they give up assets for him now.

Tried not to overvalue some of the players, so 3rd round picks seemed valuable enough to Montreal, but cheap enough to Buyers...

Its funny how often a GM might change their mind when a player starts playing at a PPG pace... His value before signing with Montreal is not the same value as it is today.

MY apologies, I didn't realize you were in Pens Management. I will scratch them off the potential Kovalchuk Buyers list and re-submit it to Bergevin. Thank god for CapFriendly ARGM, #amirite

GMJR was quoted pretty heavily in a recent Athletic article where he said they are focusing on bringing in a particular type of forward. Fast, defensive minded back checker. It isn't about production for them. They really are looking at a style fit for the deadline.

Imagine how awesome the draft would be if your team had 10 picks out of the first 90. Maaan you would have lots to look forward to. I don't think you overvalued anything. I actually think you could get a lot more for all the salary retention and for taking Ceci. Would be fun with all those picks and your young players

There is no reason why the Leafs would pay for someone to take Ceci. Ceci for the 5th maybe doable but the leafs have no incentive to give the 3rd along with Ceci.

I guess the issue here is that it doesn't show what the Leafs could do with that cap space. They need help on RD and Ceci is awful. If they need to clear 4.5M in cap, it seems like a pretty cheap price (moving down two draft rounds in essence). I have tried to propose trade ideas involving Weber or Petry to help the Leafs out, but their fans continue to say they have no interest in either player. So maybe clearing up cap space and letting them trade for someone else is more likely. That's my thoughts at least.

Should be noted, I personally don't want Ceci, but he is a warm body and has a skillset that might help Montreal short term (Tank wink).

Ceci is not as bad as everyone portrays him to be. He is just overpaid. He is not 4.5 mil player. At 1.5-2 Mil he is an adequate 5-6 D. When Healthy Reilly/Barrie Muzzin/Holl and Dermott/Ceci is a good defense. Can it be better of course.

One MTL fan posts about Kovalchuk going to the pens. Next think you know 500 posts.
If they wanted him they would have signed him as a UFA. It's not like he wouldn't have signed with the penguins over MTL, after all he's played with Malkin a lot.
They don't want him.

Ok, I understand if you think Pens don't want him. But lets stop pretending like none of the NHL teams changed their mind since he signed. He proved he can play at a PPG so far and has a league minimum contract. Teams looking for offense aren't going to call Montreal up and say "Well, we could have had him for free, so really, you should just hand him over..."

no one has changed their mind.
It's an absurd belief that somehow he now has value.
Teams set a plan in action and go from there. Teams have their guy picked and will go after them and if they don't get them, they won't make a move.
