Kinda why I asked if he could be left exposed for the expansion draft, Seattle takes him (cap floor, leadership, experience etc) and recieves a 2nd or 3rd pick for their help

Agree with everyone else here BUT to answer your question: Burns is automatically protected in the expansion draft UNLESS he waives his NTC.

He would need to waive it for the trade. Meaning leafs would not have to honour it.

SJS can ask if for his 3 team list. If the Leafs are on that list then they can trade him there and his MNTC would still be intact. I'm fairly certain of this, but it's too early to start googling.
