This was a fleecing for the Rangers right away, and it still is.

It's hard to believe not only did Ottawa trade a young, developing potential C for an older, streaky guy, they threw in a second as well TO trade away the young, developing potential C.

If there's a silver lining, they sold very high on Brass later.

On the contrary, I don't think this even makes the top 15 most lopsided trades. Luongo to Vancouver, Thornton to San Jose, Marcel Dionne to the Kings, Phil Esposito to Boston, Brett Hull to St Louis, Eric Lindros to Philly, Gretzky to the Kings (obviously), Mark Messier to NYR, Taylor Hall to NJD, Filip Forsberg to NSH, and more are more lopsided.

unless you mean ones that you've seen as in ones that have happened while you are a fan. Then my effort for this was all for not smile

Hall to NJD wasn’t that lopsided. Hall only had one good year in New Jersey before falling back down to earth, and the Oilers had a solid top 4 D for 5 seasons. Still a win for New Jersey, but certainly not close to being in one of the worst trades discussion.

This is a trade that will haunt my dreams forever.

Nothing more than a complete utter fleecing that is a stain on Pierre Dorion's legacy.

The swapping of the two draft picks makes it even more disgusting.

Rangers win.

I love coming back to this trade and wondering who the 9 people are who not only thought this wasn't one of the worst trades of all time, but thought Ottawa won the trade.

I don’t think this ever looked like a good trade for Ottawa, especially with the draft picks included (I had forgotten about that – I remembered it as one-for-one), but if you look at what the two players had done up to that point, and the fact that Ottawa’s management still thought they had a chance to be a contender (apparently they were right about that, for one year), it doesn’t look as lopsided as it does today. Even so, when you consider his age and the upward trajectory that Zibanejad was on, it didn’t seem to make sense to let him go for a guy six years older. The only motivation I could think of for Ottawa was that Brassard was signed for 3 more years, but even if Zibanejad wanted out, they could have got two more years out of him before he could walk.
