that was the one i struggled with, not sure of the discourse between Lias/Tony and the club after the Lias thing and a QO for Tony; leafs could also include a Bracco/Korshkov type for a lesser prospect back; Leafs also have a few reserve rights D (Kral/Rasanen) that could be included

Still rather not give up Deangelo, lias and a lesser prospect for bracco, johnsson and Barrie. We’d have to find a trade with Barrie who’s value isn’t deangelos. And bracco isn’t very valuable to me being 5’9 and not having star power and never played in the NHL and isn’t the youngest prospect. I’d hang the phone up

Blues aren't trading Allen until summer, maybe call back then... but Hutch & Timashov hold no interest for us.

i strongly disagree. this trade is a fantastic deal for st louis that improves the team short-term and makes signing pietrangelo significantly easier in the post-season, as STL nets about 1.5m in cap space from this deal. hutchinson and timashov might not be high value but timashov is strongly cost-controlled and hutchinson has been serviceable when he has access to a high-fundamentals defensive core. meanwhile kapanen is by a wide margin the best player in this trade and adds 20 goals to the team's middle six on a very nice contract. this is an absolute slam dunk from STL's perspective.

I agree with both of you somewhat. The value the Blues receive in this trade is solid. However, @mokumboi is likely correct in that the Note won't trade Allen until the summer, especially with the rough go Binnington has had lately. It's fair deal, but the timing just isn't right for the Blues. One other thing to consider: what if Jake Allen continues his stellar play all year? What is his value then come summertime? The Blues would have a goalie with one year on his contract at a very reasonable $4.3 million who lit it up the year before, has been a number one before, has stolen a playoff series (Sorry Minnesota. Not really) before, and is young enough that a team willing to trust him long-term can sign him long-term if desired.

Armstrong would perhaps be cutting off his own legs if he moved Allen before the year is up, and I'm not sure that would rank high on his "to-do" list.

Yeah, it's not just about the value of the players in the trade (though as I said Tymo and Hutch are redundant in our pool). Making our forward corps marginally better (and yes, Kap is still young enough to improve and signed on a good deal) wouldn't mean much if Binny suddenly is sidelined near or during the playoffs. And Allen's price only keeps rising ATM. Plus, his math is off, the trade would net us about .4M in cap space once you include calling up Husso to replace Allen. Put it all together, and this is far from any kind of slam dunk for the Blues. It's likely a small net gain on the wing for the gamble of having a totally green back-up to Binny. So... that's a nah from me today, but call back after we win the Cup again.
